Random stuff that one summer week can have

My last week, or maybe a little more, has been characterised by random, trivial things that were completely unrelated to each other. The days were passing and I had that feeling that flies might have in a closed room - flying from one corner to another, making zigzag routes endlessly, leading the little creature nowhere. Maybe it is just a matter of one summer week that couldn't find any specific focus, like hazy summer time with no particular goal. Perhaps it is all fine.

Well, if I think it better, we did have one important task - to survive the heatwave that hit Spain last weekend, despite the fact that we had a lot of casual things on our daily menu. But once the heatwave passed, my days continued in the same uncreative way.

20250816_095309.jpg

Probably it is normal that I feel that way, as I was used to having organised days and a lot of work in the last months. Having a long summer break and holidays is great, of course, I can't complain as I enjoy it, but I will need more "self-discipline" and focus, and then make plans for the future. Tomorrow is Monday, maybe it is a good day for work and planning haha, let's leave this Sunday still in this lazy mood. And also, I will tell you briefly what these random things that filled my last week were, because all in all, they weren't that bad.

Beach time.

We still enjoyed a beautiful beach time last Saturday, but since then, we haven't gone for different reasons. For example, one of them is that there were some beaches close to us that closed because a little blue creature appeared here in Spain. Very rare, almost unthinkable to find them in the Mediterranean, but this year they came to these waters. It is the Blue sea dragon, or in its official name, Glaucus atlanticus. Their sting can be dangerous.

Evening concerts.

In our evening walks, we encountered different cultural activities in the squares, including open-air concerts. We passed by one show where older generations were dancing to the live music, and although it is not the kind of music I would listen to or dance to, it was nice to see elderly people enjoying their time. As we continued our walk, we found another concert in a park, with a lot of audience. And once again, it is not really the music I would connect to, but anyway, we were surprised that these concerts and shows are held and visited.

Colouring books.

For several evenings in a row, as a nice pastime activity, I was colouring flowers and fruits from the colouring book I already mentioned here. An adult can also unwind this way, right?

20250821_225739.jpg

The blueberries were appearing while I was taking my morning coffee too, though I went to sleep in the meantime, don't worry.

20250822_083521.jpg

Hand fan.

I was wondering whether hand fans are such rare objects that no one uses them, not even during the summer? But well, I can't find my fans either, only this latest one I got from a student. The history of the first fans goes back to ancient times; some sources mention Egypt, but they were also used in ancient Greece and East Asia (ancient China and Japan). The designs and materials could differ, and some examples were real masterpieces. This one I hold in my hand is very simple and not of any artistic value, but hey, it serves its purpose when it is too warm. Btw, can you guess its colour?

Car search.

Helping our son find a decent used car at a good price was probably the most time-consuming activity of the past week. We weren't exactly keen on the idea of him having his own car, but we are not going to forbid it either. He needs to learn for himself what he needs and what he doesn't, through his own experience. And after all, it was his savings that he wanted to use for a first car, for something old and small that can serve him for a couple of years.

After seeing several ridiculous examples and laughing at the techniques some of the vendors tried to use to sell a bad car for the money that doesn't match the condition of the vehicle, saying that some of the cars were "like new", but to me they were ready to be taken to a car scrapyard, we finally found a super cute little car from a very kind couple who bought a larger vehicle for their growing family. This one now became our son's car.

About this topic... If you are a driver and would like to answer this question, how old were you when you bought/got your first car?

Sunday morning gig.

As every Sunday, I went to play the piano in the hotel and what a nice surprise that I found there. My little friend, the Dreaming Buddha is hiding somewhere, again; however, I found this lady with lush hair! So cool, isn't it?

Maybe this is the new summer style for how we should wear our hair! 😉

Good evening @mipiano, it seems I've escaped a nasty heatwave... You mention the issue of time management, I'll tell you that I get disorganised quite easily... tomorrow the first thing I have to do is pick up my diary and start organising the week. It's either that or chaos.

Before I say anything else, I'm forgetting something... I think I got my first car when I was 24... At that time, a company ‘required’ me to get my driving licence so I wouldn't lose my job, and at that age, an acquaintance gave me his car... It wasn't a Ferrari.

I wanted to tell you something about live music... I think you're very lucky to live in a region with such a rich musical tradition. It's a luxury to have so many live concerts.

I'll stay here. Have a great night.

Good evening @enraizar, yes, I am glad that you escaped this heatwave, but also that you are back at home and Hive now! :)) Organisation or chaos - it indeed is like that.

24 is a good age for that. I also got my driving licence at that age, and didn't have my own car, I was driving my dad's car. Neither it was a Ferrari 😂

Thank you, and have a good night you too. 👋

I also tried colouring books before, and you’re right, it’s such a simple but relaxing way to unwind.

It also gives satisfaction to see the empty spaces slowly becoming filled with colours :)

Hi 😁 Focus!

! [Hidden Spoiler Text]
;)

The hand fan is very summery, it has some sunrays, so that part must be yellow. It must have sky blue in the part that surrounds the sun and orange or green at the top... I think it could be something like that.

Oh, coffee makes you sleepy? 😜 A algunas personas les sucede eso con el café.

Well, it’s good that the little man of the house now has his own car. And you—make sure you take care and keep your eyes on the road. 🙄 Well… I didn’t come to scold, I came to guess and to remind you the story of the Rock: the one about the man to whom God appears in his cabin… quizás sirve de algo.

The Glaucus atlanticus looks like something from another world, another Era.

Hi. focus on the colours of the photo, or in general? I didn't understand 😅 None of that is easy haha

Your version of the fan is nice, but this one is even simpler, orange with white.

20250825_101826.jpg

Thank you for that story of the man and the rock; it sure helps. And the sea creature is something so rare, it is nice, but I also hope not to meet one when I go to the beach next time. 😅

🌤️ You have a personal account that every day dawns with 86400, it is non-negotiable. No matter how much you spend, or how you decide to spend it, you'll have the same amount the next day... Until one day... Focus on that.

Wow I love that vase with the flowers! me? I don't have the patience to colour stuff, I prefer a jigsaw to unwind, but they can get frustrating at times.

I had my first car at 18yrs, it was the exact same model and colour as one latterly made famous by J K Rowling. A Ford Anglia 105E, I wanted a mini, but father insisted this was a better car. It cost me £200, for which I had to take out a bank loan for half of that. TBH, I loved it, and it served me well for I think just over three years. When I sold it as it became beyond repair, I bought a Mini LOL.

Your son id very lucky to have a classy Merc. as a first car!!!!!!!!

I like Jigsaw puzzles too! Those of 3000 pieces, for example, can indeed become frustrating haha

Ford Anglia 105E - now I searched for it to see what it looks like. It is a cool one, but a Mini is a Mini 😁
And my son wanted a Seat, I guess as it is considered a national Spanish car all the youngsters want to have. But, this German brand won in quality over all the cars we have seen for the whole week 😁

Indeed he has a good brand, I drove a Seat Leon FR for a few years when I was working boy that was super fast to drive.

I don't think my hair could be styled like that, it's too fine and thin for it, ha ha ha.

Fans... my friend has a collection and uses them! She kindly sent me a photo of each one! Many people use them here, but mostly older people... it's great to see those shows where they have fun.

I also didn't go to the beach much, mainly because I was very busy, but that dragon didn't come here...

With so much heat, well... I didn't paint, there were no paintings this summer, but they'll be back soon!

The women who dance and have shows with fans (like in Ferias) are pros in using them, of course not just for cooling down but as a part of the show. Your friend is very kind 😇

I hope to get back to the beach these days; hopefully, the blue sea dragons will stay in deep water, or I will stay just in the shallow 😅

I've only seen those dragons in photos... they're beautiful even though they're dangerous... gorgeous!

Ahhh, I forgot something... the colour of the fan... yellow?

I was 19 when I bought my first car. It was a used 1975 Ford Mustang with a V8 302 horsepower engine.

I wanted to pay cash for it, but my dad insisted I get a loan to get some credit rating. I don't know if that was a good idea or not, but I did what he told me. A year later I was purchasing furniture (again, I wanted to pay cash, but my dad insisted on a loan) for my new apartment since I was transferred by my company to another state. Little did I know that I would soon meet my husband and get married a year later (and we've been married for 44 years now).

By the way, I sold my Mustang and purchased a larger car and all loans were paid off before I got married. A busy two years!

My son is also 19 ;)
I thought, and still think that it is maybe too early to have an own car haha, maybe I just feel like getting older as a mother with these changes 😂

And I just checked the Ford Mustang from 1975, wow, that was a cool one and a lot of horsepower! Thank you very much for sharing your experience on this topic. 😇

Age has nothing to do with it. It has to do with maturity. I have four children, three girls and a boy. The oldest, a girl, would have been ready to own her own car, but didn't need one at that time (and was wise/mature enough to not waste her money on one). The others, no - nothing else I can say. With privilege comes responsibility! If they aren't ready for the responsibility, well...
