My nation my pride.

Oh! Nigeria, my nation, "how I love thee." I know many of us who are Nigerian aren't too happy with the nation right now because of the things we are being faced with recently. I know the nation isn't what we expected it to be. Growing up I've been hearing the good news that Nigeria will be better someday. And here I am being embodied with adulthood, and the nation is still the same. "Did I just say the same?" The nation is going backwards. Sorry, I have to use that harsh word, but that is the truth.

I know they say the truth is always bitter, but it's still better to tell the truth than to lie to cover up what isn't true. But deep down inside, I'm still filled with the hope that Nigeria will be better someday —maybe not today, not tomorrow, but maybe in the near future —so we can experience a better nation that we've ever dreamt of.

I know many of us maintain a love and hate relationship with our dear nation because the nation isn't treating us well, but the truth is, there are so many reasons why we enjoy Nigeria. I believe there is no place like home, and Nigeria is that place for us. Nigeria may not be the best place to live in right now, but there is no place we'd rather be than here, and there are also those people who have sworn never to leave Nigeria. We would rather live in Nigeria and establish ourselves than relocate to another land.

And then some don't want to stay in Nigeria, but the situation made them stay. Whichever category we belong we will have a list of reasons why we love Nigeria and enjoy living in it. Despite the situation we are in, we can still proudly say "I'm happy to be a Nigerian".

One thing I love about my nation, "Nigeria", is the cultural diversity. My dear nation has so many indigenous cultures, each with its own language, which makes it more unique. And not forgetting the cultural observance and traditions, most importantly the traditional attire that represents each culture. I can remember some months back when my place of worship asked its members to represent their culture.

That day I saw the different cultures, their different attire, which made the whole event more colorful. One thing I am always happy to do is meet people from different tribes. I was fortunate to learn something new from those cultures and then talk about their traditional delicacies. Every culture in my nation has a dish that is known for.

The one bad thing about my nation, Nigeria is a nation and not a person that we can hold accountable for everything that is happening. And a nation is made up of people, and those people are what make up a nation. We are Nigeria. If there is one thing that I can say that's bad about my nation, it is the "Leadership", yeah! The system of leadership in my nation is nothing to write home about. Often, those people will come out for campaigns and tell us heaven and earth, but the moment they get what they've always wanted, they change, like the twinkling of an eye, and turn the nation into something else.

Nigeria is blessed, the outside world looked at us and called us a "blessed nation," but then we have natural disasters in human form, which is making the nation look horrible before other nations.

Nigerians are unique people because they will always find a way where it seems to be no way, even in hardship, they will look for all means to settle their daily needs. We have a lot to be thankful for as a nation, irrespective of the challenges we've faced and still face.

I still have the hope and faith that Nigeria will be better someday, maybe today or the next day to come, but then in the near future.

Thanks for reading 🧡
