When Giving Becomes Tricky.

You know, these days it is really hard to tell if donations actually go to the people who need them, I mean, people post stories every day , sad ones, touching ones, emotional ones and sometimes you just want to help, but deep down you are wondering, “ Ehn...What if this person is lying?”

See It is crazy how scammers have turned something that used to be so beautiful into something people now doubt, before, when someone said they needed help, people would just rush to assist, but now, everyone has to double check, confirm, or even investigate before giving, the whole process of helping has just become so somehow.

Me I can’t even pretend like I don’t understand both sides, because I have been there myself, there was a time I had to seek donations here on Hive for my cousin who had kidney problems, God rest her soul, she died , see It was such a tough moment for my family because the bills were piling up, and we were honestly helpless, so, I wrote a post asking for support, and yes, some people helped, which I will forever be grateful for, but the truth is, if I wasn’t the one posting it myself, I probably would have doubted too because online, you never really know what is real anymore.

Omo.... It is just sad how people who lie about their situations have made it difficult for those genuinely in need, these scammers have painted the whole act of giving with so much suspicion that even good-hearted people now hesitate before donating, I have seen cases where people raised funds, and instead of using it for the stated purpose, they go on to live large, buy phones, clothes, or even travel,so now, every new donation story gets side eyed.

Personally, I like to give, but I mostly prefer to help directly, like someone I can see, someone close to me, or a need I can confirm , for example, if I know someone struggling to pay rent or buy food, I would rather give that person cash or support in kind, that way, I can see the impact and know where the money goes, Online donations, I only do when I can trust the source or the platform, Because, let’s be honest, not everyone raising money is genuine.

Sometimes, I just feel bad for people who truly need help but get ignored because of what others have done, it's so sad, I think one way we can change that is through transparency, If you collect donations, there should be updates , pictures, receipts, or something that shows how the money was used, see I think that way, people can see proof and trust you more, it is not hard to post a simple “thank you” update, or show that the funds went where they were supposed to.

At the end of the day, I still believe giving is a beautiful thing, We just have to do it wisely now, Help where you can, but don’t let anyone take advantage of your kindness, the world needs more givers, but it also needs honesty to make the giving process meaningful again.

So yes, these days when I see donation posts, I pause, think, and pray for guidance before I give, because one thing I have learned is that giving blindly can sometimes hurt more than help.

But no matter how messed up things get, I will never stop helping when I can , I will just make sure my help is going where it is truly needed.
