That Time I Forgot My Phone
From time to time, people tend to forget their things, including those that are important to them. And it was not just exclusive to adults, because even younger people do forget their stuff, either due to them having lots of things to think about, that they got an information overload, or that they are doing many things at the same time. Either way, forgetting things does not necessarily mean that we are forgetful or lacking in intelligence. It can be due to a combination of different factors that are sometimes beyond our control. It's just forgetting things can be really frustrating, especially when it comes to important things, and how it can affect the rest of our day. Such a thing happened to me when I forgot to bring my phone when I was just new in my current job.
Usually, I don't mind not bringing my phone on my work, because what? Maybe I will miss a call or two, and I can't listen to music. Stuff like browsing the internet or checking social media is something I can do just fine in my workstation as long as it doesn't affect my work. But that time that I forgot my phone, I was just new to my job and still was not fully adjusted, traveling back and forth from my home to my work, which is located in another city.
The thing is, being new to my job, there are still things that I have not fully grasped yet, such as where applications are located in the company's server, or how do I configure IP phones. So, for that, I need to rely on the notes that I wrote in my phone. It was also during this time that the company was having a redeployment of all of its computers after it was infected with a virus, so my task involved moving across different floors to manually reimage all the workstations, as we could not do them remotely. The problem is, I am not yet familiar with the names of the computers and where they are located, so I usually look through each of the floor maps, which I can access on the server using my phone. But since I do not have it in me, it becomes a real hassle. And due to the workstation redeployment, the whole I.T department is busy, making it difficult to find the opportunity to ask my workmates.
To cope with the predicament that I had, first, I had to brute force my way looking for each of the workstations in my to-do list manually without relying on the floor map. In the LAN outlet under each of the workstations' tables, lie numbers which correspond to the name of each of the workstations, and with that, I was able to find the computers that I needed to re-image, but going under the table looking for each of them was quite tiring and I think I did that more or less 30 times that day. Well, I later realized that I could also check the map through the working computers, and that was a lesson learned for me. Same thing that I do with looking for the applications. I just looked in each of the folders on the server to know where they are located. For the IP phones, I looked at the configuration of my workstation's IP phone and copied that. All in all, I still managed to complete my work without any issues. Right now, I'm very familiar with these things and do not need to check on my phone for notes, but that time was really a hassle.
Ever since then, as soon as I was done using my phone as an alarm clock, I will immediately place it inside my bag so that I will not forget it and did the same with the other important stuff like my wallet and never did I miss bringing my phone with me again. It was easy to resolve since it was a material thing for for other things such as important meeting or a promise to another person, keeping notes will be the best means to not forget them. Still, we are just human and there will be a time that we will forget things no matter how much we prepare or it so it was also important to flexible so that we can continue our day even without them.
Thank you for reading my post and see you on the next one!
Using the phone with alarm is something that I do frequently, it is very useful especially when measuring cooking times in the kitchen, and times when I have to do certain tasks such as collecting water. etc It is normal for us to forget some things, I think it has ever happened to us all.
No one wants to forget their things but it still happen to everyone. It's just a matter people will adapt to the situation so that they can continue with their day.
I think I have forgotten to pick up my phone while going out, too and I could understand the tension and pressure it brings especially when it's needed for an important task just like the one you explained. When we forget things, we end up being delayed to do some things that could have been done so soon.
Phones has become quite an extension of our body that they made our task easier so not having them around when we need them can be a hassle.
Well, look on the bright side, it's a learning experience for you. For me, when I'm stepping out, I'm used to always holding my phone in my hand. No matter how rough the neighborhood is, because it's the one place I know it can't be stolen without my knowledge. And it has gotten so habitual that if I step out without my phone, I'll feel light and empty, as if I'm missing something. I rarely forget my phone.
Yeah, its a great learning experience. Even though I don't have the need compared to that time, I still make it a habit to bring it with me because there may be a situation that I absolutely need it so it is always better to be prepared.
I can't ever forget my phone. Whenever I go somewhere, if I don't feel my phone in my pocket, I feel naked, like something important is missing.
Well, its in ph so putting my valuables in my pocket when riding the crowded public transport can spell a disaster (almost got robbed once)😅.
Ahhh.. Enough said. 😅
I still worry about that every time I'm in the Homeland!
