"Nothing but a lie"

Greetings!

One thing that has been part of human rights from the inception of the word is telling lies. Telling lies has since become part of humans and there's no sign of it abating anytime soon as this would surely continue as much as the world exists and its inhabitants are humans.

Having talked about lying being part of humans, I would love to define what a lie is all about. Lie in my own layman definition is the opposite of truth and it's the act of not telling the truth by not being straight forward in whatever we say or do. It's also an act of deceit.

But going back to the question being raised by the question of the prompt which is, “the lie of omission.” I would say that every untruthfulness is a lie and there's no other name called it than it to be called a lie.

However, I would like to reiterate my stand on what I perceived it to be. In my own view, telling a lie has no degree is a partial or full lie. All I know is that, both the partial and the full lie have the same weight and degree which can be so dangerous to both the person telling the lie and the person being lied to.

Although, some used to believe that there's some situation when and where we need to lie our way through, but we telling that lie just to be free or go through doesn't mean it's changed its nomenclature from being called lie as it remains what we all know it to be which is lie which might at the end affect others and the liar himself.

Some time ago, I lied to one of my customers that the tonnage of the granite i supplied him was 20tons, although, that wasn't my first time of telling him this partial lie or let me call it white lie, just to have my way, but in this particular, this customer of mine, Engr. Olaide asked me to supply him the same tonnage at another site, but on getting to the site, I found out that they have the same equipment to which we normally used to take the measurements and weigh the goods.

So, immediately I found out that we were going to measure the truck and the granite. I was afraid within myself and decided to approach Engr. Olaide. When I got to him, I lied again and told him that this one was not up to the normal one I used to bring to the other sites.

But, instead of him hearing me out, flared up and said he already knew I could not be trusted. He said he has been watching me closely these days and vow to catch me one day and that that day was the time and that he's caught me.

So, it's then that I started pleading with him, but he rejected all my appeals and even the granite. He said he would not accept it until it's up to the number of tonnage he requested.

However, when all my pleading was to no avail, I went back to bring another 20tons with an added cost and supplied him, but that's the last time he called on me to supply him and through my partial lie, I lost the human supply project that would have fetched me millions.

So, it's this incident that made me know that there's no difference between the partial and the full lie as both can only do one thing which is to wreak havoc.

In conclusion, both the partial and the full lies can be so dangerous to our lives and personality if we refuse to tame and desist from it. Lying has no good to offer us, but when it comes to wrecking havoc it does the best.

Even a “white lie” can have serious consequences. Indeed, whether partial or complete, a lie ends up eroding trust and opportunities. It’s a good reminder that being honest is more valuable in the long run
