The beauty of learning from strangers

source

Sometimes, the most valuable lessons in life don’t come from books, classrooms, or even the people we’ve known for years. They come from complete strangers, people we never planned to meet, who simply crossed our path for a moment and unknowingly left an imprint.

I remember one afternoon when I had to wait for a bus. The weather was hot, and I was already thinking about how the rest of my day might be wasted in traffic. A man I would never met before sat beside me. At first, it was just small talk about how unpredictable the weather had been that week. But as we spoke, I realized he had a way of seeing life differently.

He told me, Every delay is just life telling you to slow down, maybe even giving you extra time to notice something you would have missed.
It sounded simple, but that sentence stayed with me. It changed the way I looked at moments I couldn’t control.

Since that day, I started paying more attention to the little wisdoms strangers drop here and there an old woman telling me the importance of greeting people properly, a shopkeeper who explained why he always forgives customers that underpay him, a young boy who told me he saves half of any money he gets, no matter how small.

It made me realize that life is like a giant library, and strangers are the books we haven’t read yet. Some pages are short and sweet, others are long and challenging, but each one adds something to our understanding of the world.

The funny thing is, we often underestimate people we don’t know. We assume they don’t have anything to teach us simply because they’re outside our circle. But when you let go of that mindset, you start to see how much wisdom is floating around you every day.

I think we sometimes make the mistake of only learning from people who look like us, speak like us, or share our backgrounds. But true growth often happens when you hear a perspective you never considered before. That’s where the magic is when something unexpected makes you stop and think, “Maybe I was wrong, or I never thought of it that way.”

Now, whenever I step outside, I treat it like an open classroom. The world is my teacher, and everyone I meet has something worth hearing if I’m patient enough to listen.

If you’ve never tried it, I challenge you: the next time you find yourself next to a stranger, don’t just scroll through your phone or avoid eye contact. Start a conversation. You might walk away with a lesson you’ll carry for years
Life is too short to only learn from the familiar. Sometimes the best gems are hidden in people we’ve never met before.

I enjoy dialogue a lot. I like to strike and engage in conversations with both the young and old and can be very inquisitive. I can't begin to count how much knowledge and information I have gathered by this habit of mine.

I love the part that you say sometimes delay is just life telling us to slow down, or maybe even trying to show us something we wouldn't even have noticed if there wasn't any such delay

Very inspiring and insightful
Thanks for sharing 👍
