RISKING A LIFE FOR A LIFE! || (ATLS)
A LIFE FOR A LIFE!
Damn, this prompt came in just the right time guys. Last week Tuesday being the 10th of June I did something outrageous and one i would never have done on a regular day. Wondering what it is? Early that morning before leaving my house to work, I received several missed calls from my cousin sister who lives in another locality about 4 hours drive from me.
My cousin ”God's Gift” is always an occurring caller on a regular day, she will keep calling your phone until someone picks up the call not having a second thought if you're even close to your phone or not. Now on this occasion I got several missed calls from her and when I tried returning the call, I couldn't reach through to her.
Later that evening around past 9:PM, I received a call from my aunt who lives in the northern part of the state and when we were on call, she was angrily yelling what happened to my phone and how she's trying to reach out to me since early hours of the day and I explained to her that it could have been network or something cause my phone was active all through the day.
Bang! She told me my cousin fell unconscious that she got the information from a neighboring person who tried to access her phone but couldn't go through her password and had to take out the SIM card from into another device and trying to see if they could reach out to any of her family and contacts. I fell into trauma immediately being under this state I was unable to think straight I immediately tried calling her number and it wasn't going through I was left with no option but to hit the road immediately to the hospital I heard she's been admitted into. Maybe if it was a guy, the case would have been slightly different but no, ladies are treated and handled differently.
I quickly picked up my phone, a power bank and my wallet, those were the most valuable items I could think of at the moment and didn't even care to change the clothes I was put on. I left the house, it was already 9:30PM as at that time and have no exact idea where I was headed to but I was believing God to make it even at a zero hour and chances.
I was left with two options to decide my fate, Should I go over to her house? So I could at least walk with one of the neighbors who knows the location to the hospital she got admitted? Or should I figure things out myself by asking and making enquiries till I finally arrive? While still pondering this in my head, I already boarded a bus sitting so confused and traumatized. This was going to take about 3 to 4 hours journey and that means I'm traveling late night to a location I barely even know. At that point in time I was conscious about time and knowing how risky it was traveling late at night but at the same time, a life was at stake here, so I was risking a life for a life.
When I arrived at the bus stop to begin moving out of my local government to where I was directed to, I was told there were no more vehicles heading to that location.
Now this was the tough and frustrating part of my life. I couldn't turn back now cause I've already started the journey. I called my aunt and explained the situation to her and quickly went to my Whatsapp and shared my live location with her for the next 24 hours cause I was going to do something really crazy that night. I began asking questions on how I can take myself there and one of the drivers advised me that it's too late but if I must insist because I seemed to be on an emergency travel, I should attach myself to a payloader whose exporting goods down to the local government and God so kind there was a van right there who was just leaving.
There is no space inside the van so you'll have to fix yourself in-between the goods behind the van and make yourself to your best of comfort. That Is how I squeezed myself in and mind you, it wasn't free, you still pay for this transportation but of course a very lesser amount than you would have paid inside a bus or vehicle.
This is something I've never attempted nor dreamt of in my entire life and here I am, soaked in the situation. The road was very quiet and the only sound you could hear was that of our moving van. It was just enough to call the attention of robbers if there were any waiting to ambush us at that hour of the night throughout the journey. As at few minutes past 11: PM or let's say 11:30PM, the driver stopped somewhere and asked me to get down from the vehicle. I was confused and wanted to ask what happened before he said, this is where you're stopping!.
Wow, in the middle of no where? "I exclaimed to myself exhaustedly" they told me I was going to take a motorcycle down to onimbo from there according to the description I gave them earlier.
Came down from the van and stood in the middle of the road with just my phone, power bank, putting on a jean trousers,t shirt and flip flops standing in a location I've never been at an I credible hour of the day. No movements on the road, not a single human could be seen. Few minutes later I sighted a vehicle approaching from afar, I didn't care to know who it was if they were villains or not, just wanted to ask for assistance anyway they could help.
It was an elderly man who according to him, his motorcycle broke down on the way and he had to look for every possible means to get it fixed and that took him hours that's why he was seen at that hour of the day.
I pleaded with him and he agreed I even told him I was going to pay ridiculously if only he helped me, to be sincere I don't even know how far or close I was already but I told him I was going to give him five thousand naira just to feel encouraged and he thought about this for a minute then said, let's go! I would have almost kissed him if it were to be a lady.
He drove me down to the exact hospital and guess what he didn't collect a dime from me.
That was an angel of God in disguise ”i said to myself with my eyes partially wet out of my emotions”
Cut the long story short as I was surfing round the hospital to know the ward my cousin was admitted into and boom I saw gift sitting right there sipping milk and a bunch of snacks scattered in front of her probably her supposed boyfriend came into the rescue as well and was in the hospital.
I began having mixed feelings because I felt so used knowing all what I went through that night just to get to where she was and there she is sipping hollandia yogurt on the hospital bed. If I slap you now you'll faint final final and they'll rush you to emergency ward ”the devil in me saying his own piece of mind”
But overall I thanked the friends who brought her to the hospital and when I asked they said she got electrocuted by a new electric cooker she bought at home and she fell unconscious.
I was grateful to God for life honestly cause my cousin is very fragile someone who can't even withstand the vibration of a simple generator talk more being electrocuted, I knew what it was and I couldn't be grateful enough to God. To God be the glory at the end of the day, risking a life for a life (a true life story).

The thing is, women are treated differently unlike if it was a guy, I don't know what men did in his life sha.
And we are the only one's here so we have to watch each others backs, I mean, as the eldest that I am, it's more like a responsibility.
Wow. Just wow. You risked a life for a life indeed. Haaa, man, that was so risky to take. But yes, I agree that that man was an angel to you. God protected you all through the night and your cousin is feeling fine.
Hehe, thank you princess, it was all I had to do. There were no options left. And I know God saw all that was coming.
