Do We Need Friends to Be Happy in Life?

In life, having good friends brings a lot of fun. When you have amazing friends who would stand by you and make life worth living, to me, it’s like an achievement on its own because having good friends is just like an investment in your future.

Being surrounded by good and godly friends is something we all must strive for. One thing we must not fail to do is carefully determine who comes into our lives before we make them friends and tag such a bond a great friendship.

I grew up with just a few friends, and if I should count them — I mean, the ones who are really close to me, I don’t think they’d be up to five. Yet, we hardly talk to each other, and I am still living a fine and happy life. I wouldn’t say having friends necessarily determines one’s happiness, but I guess we are all different.

Life becomes fun when you have even just a friend who makes life worth living. Someone who’d be willing to go the extra mile for you. Someone who’d be ready to give you knowledge and introduce you to what could benefit you. Someone who’d be ready to even talk to you about your faith and help you grow. Trust me, life can not be more fun than this, and this is something I have found in a friend here on Hive. A beautiful soul that makes me happy when we talk, and that’s what constitutes a life of happiness with friends who value your presence.

Some people have wonderful friends around them, and that truly makes life worth living. For example, my younger sister. I could say she’s fortunate to have great and quality friends she can call on anytime, and they would enjoy life together.

Whenever I look at her, I know she had that opportunity right from a young age to be surrounded by friends who know how to enjoy life. Like she often tells me, “Enjoy your life.” And here she is, doing just that with amazing circles of friends around her. She and her friends go on vacations every time they have the chance, and that makes me realise that life can be fun with friends who are ready to vibe with you.

I’ve always been proud of her because she’s also careful in her choice of friends.

But amidst all of these, her happiness isn’t dependent on her friends. What I mean is that whether she’s around friends or not, it doesn’t stop her from being happy, because everyone has the choice to be happy irrespective of who is with them or not.

Having good friends is a beautiful thing, but at the same time, I don’t think our happiness should depend on them. True happiness is a decision. It is a feeling we choose to embrace, and it shouldn’t be tied to external factors that can change at any time and unexpectedly. It is when you are happy within yourself that you can cheer up around friends. Though we have friends who would make sure there’s no dull moment with them. What if we all disperse for that day and still lock ourselves indoors, feeling unhappy? This is why happiness is a personal choice and decision.

At least I had a nice time with my Hive friends when we hung out the other time in Lagos city, and that was fun. They made life beautiful, even with the short time we spent together.

When enjoyment comes and there are good friends to celebrate with, that’s wonderful. Life truly feels lighter when surrounded by quality people. But we must be careful who we call friends so we don’t end up gathering those who only benefit from us without adding any value in return.

Some friends drain our energy and keep us stuck, and we wouldn’t want that. That’s why it’s important to enjoy friendships without making them the source of our happiness. Friends make life fun, yes, but we can still be happy without them if we choose to.

Even, if some friends give you happiness in the morning, it might not last till the light. Thanks for sharing .

I like the fact that you highlighted that happiness should not be depended on friends rather a decision to be happy.

That caught me.

Yes, it's a decision and not anyone's.
Thank you for reading.

I agree that happiness shouldn’t depend on friends. Having good friends can make life more enjoyable, but real happiness comes from within. When you’re content with yourself, friendships become an addition, not a requirement for joy.

Having a good quality of friends is not unlike winning the lottery in life :)

One can go far in life via simply the type of friends they have, it just makes the adventure more worthwhile. In terms of happiness, I wholeheartedly agree, we each are responsible for our own happiness, can't give that power to anybody else without suffering dire consequences, I think.

Exactly. The last sentence is true. Giving someone else the power to dictate your happiness can result to regret later. We are the sole dictator of our happiness.

Yes, even our families are our friends, no doubt. In fact, they make it more worthwhile because these are people you know before the outside world. Thank you, Rosecane for stopping by. I appreciate.

True ooo. Happiness is a choice. You choose to be happy afterall, the joy of the Lord is what gives us strength. So why place such hope in a mortal?

Friends are good, genuine friends are better but know yourself and choose you.

Friends are another name of enjoyment and we keep enjoying time as long as we stay beside our friends. It's magical and I think we remain happy whenever our friends stay with us. I never thought about life without friends.

Yes, life without friends can be boring but at the same time, we can choose to be happy all the time irrespective of them around us.
