Public transport dilemma

I live in a state where boarding a bus is like getting into trouble because the moment you enter the bus you can't be too sure of what is going to happen the next minute.

I live in Lagos and everyone who is living here or who has lived here can testify to how dangerous public transport is here in Lagos, it is only here in my city you have to stay vigilant in buses because someone might pick your pocket, it is only here in my city you look people's eyes in a bus before you jumped in because of entering one chance.

I have some funny experiences with public transport and I am going to share one of them today for the prompt, it's happened some years back. Before the factory where I was working got closed, the management started owing us salary and that affected me a lot because I had so many things I was doing with the salary back then. The day we finally got paid I was so happy and on my way home I made sure I was very careful with every bus I entered because guys in Lagos city are not smiling at all.

When I got to the garage where I was supposed to get a bus to my house, a conductor was calling one particular place which is not mine so I walked pass him, all of a sudden he held my hand and then asked where are you going?
At first, I didn't count that but then I remembered that someone had shared a story of some conductor who picked people's pockets just by holding people's hands and then ask where they are going.

So I quickly checked my pocket if my money was still intact and it was as if that was not enough. When I finally boarded the bus, I looked at everyone's face before entering. Funny enough, there was no seat so I had to stand since I didn't want to stay longer at the garage.

There was this particular guy where I stood, he looked somehow to me but the space in the bus was in his front so I didn't have a choice. Whenever the bus climbed a bump, he would move close to me as if he knew I had money on me, so I removed my transport fee from my pocket with my phone and then put it inside my bag, if you are living in Lagos you must be guiding your property always.

I guess he saw the money in my bag because after opening the bag the way he moved was different and it got to a point where I faced him and asked what was his problem after the confrontation, I held onto my bag tightly.

I got down when the bus almost got to my bus stop and then took a bike which I have never done before, because here in Lagos a thief can follow you anywhere just to collect $1 from you, and I noticed nobody cares in the bus so if anything should happen that is how everyone will be looking at me.

I can never forget that day because it played in my head like as if it happened yesterday, I didn't pray to experience such a day again because I was acting as if something was wrong with my brain just because I was being careful of the kind of bus I entered and the people in the bus.

Lagos is a very busy place and nobody cares here in Lagos, everyone is just doing whatever they like.
