All that glitters are not gold

All that glitters is not gold they say, at first, I never know the real meaning of this because I have never experienced anything that will make the sentence.

Some years back, when I was in the university I attended redeem church and I loved the way they always encouraged people and how they loved each other without looking at the person's shortcomings. One thing I cherish about redeem church is that they don't discriminate, they don't look down on their members and they always share love no matter what the person does they will make sure to support them in their own little way.

While I was in school, I was also working and I was learning catering in my free time. Every Sunday I always made doughnuts and zobo to church and despite the fact that some of my doughnuts were burnt, my church members would still buy and eat.

So one day, I sat beside a girl in the church and she kept looking at me from head to toe which I could see it but I focused on the altar, After Sunday service I was set to leave because I was on night duty at work and this girl ran after me.
Then she said, "I would like to be your friend."

I was shocked because girls don't open up like that and they will never agree that they like you but this one said it without feeling too high of herself. I accepted her friend request and we exchanged contact.

The next Sunday, I made her a special egg roll and zobo because that was the only thing I could offer her as a friend, all the money I was making was going into my studies. We talked and she told me her birthday was on Wednesday which is that week and I felt happy because I would be baking her cake.

I told her to let me bake cake for her and she said, "No everything is sorted out, my own is just to come as her friend" and I replied, "Ok".

On the birthday day, I swapped my shift with someone so that I could attend her birthday. I got to the venue and what I saw was so surprising and I felt bad because I left my work for this so-called friend of mine only to find out that she was taking me to her boyfriend's place while I dressed so well that I might be meeting her parents.

We got there and when the house door was opened I saw only guys they were about seven putting on boxers and my mind started to race as if it was going to burst out. I called her back, "Shade what are we doing here? Is this your parent's house?" She replied, "No, this is my boyfriend's house and he has plenty friends as you can see, he is the one celebrating my birthday for me and not my parents".

I couldn't close my mouth but then I managed to ask her some other questions like, "Which work is he doing to throw a big party like this for a small girl like you?" She smiled and replied to me, "All the big phones and beautiful dress I have been putting on was from him, he works on the Internet". That moment I knew that I had passed my boundaries by following this girl out.

I noticed all the good clothes, shoes, wigs and phones she had been using but I thought it was all her parents doing not knowing she had a big man fending for her Meanwhile she would tell her parents it was her friend who was gifting her those things.

Before I left there one of her boyfriend's friends came to ask for my contact and I didn't know when I cursed me and I left in anger. Ever since then, I never looked at any girl in the church or what they put on because my friend just proved to me that all that glitter is not gold. It is not everything we see that is real.
