Government Taxation

Greetings, everyone!

To begin with, the collection or payment of taxes is regulated by the government. If you look into the definition of government taxation, you will see that it is well-defined, stated, complemented, and carried out strategically, but the purpose of these taxes is not for the citizens to see where their money has gone. These taxes are compulsory payments made by the people and organizations.

It's so sad, that the government is not trustworthy, making life miserable for the citizens. With the present economic situation in Nigeria, they increased the payment of taxes but yet nothing reasonable has been done with the taxes collected. What are they using the money for?

The University is close to us, where students and innovation have evolved. They allowed trucks to pass through the street, and the trucks spoiled the road leaving potholes that couldn't pass trucks and other vehicles. The road has been there for months with no repayment, but they are collecting taxes from those market people. There was a day I went to the market to get some foodstuff. I went in there, just to stumble across a tax collector with a market woman with no sales yet, dragging the woman to pay her dues, the mother told me that she hadn't made money since she came in. The young man kept on dragging the woman who was old enough to be his mother. In the process of exchanging words, the woman made a sensitive statement that ever since she paid taxes she hasn't seen any development on the street market. Until now, the potholes are still there, massively. It smells, too. Oh, God!

One of the purposes of government taxation is to fund government operations and public operations like schools, healthcare, security, and roads, but nothing has been done to it as of today. Some public schools still have linkages from the roof, and some parts of the classrooms have been neglected or abandoned due to a lack of innovation, like one government primary in my village. Not to talk of healthcare centers, it is so shameful that the government is not looking into these sectors to work upon, yet still, tax collectors are mounting pressure on people and reducing people's salaries every month, but nothing is done to show the citizens.

If positive results are not built, then they should stop collecting people's money; I don't even know why they are increasing the taxes.

However, the way things are going in Nigeria, the investment would be discouraged, and people are discouraged from paying taxes. If all our taxes had been regulated properly it would have piqued citizens interest to pay the more.

The citizens are for the government; when it comes to decision-making, the government would be against the citizens, which is not fair. The prices of goods are going higher every day, things are changing. No stable NEPA supply, no good water, no roads. People are crying because of hunger.

Please, if the government can put things in place, then there will be a big development in our country.
