The health sector is nothing to write home about.

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. Welcome to my country, where many medical students are just waiting to get their license so they can leave the country in search of greener pastures since their own country does not value what they have to offer. As much as it is bad and hurts to watch them leave, you cannot blame them because if you were in their shoes, you'd do the same. There is no one out there who, when undervalued, will still stay; they will go out in search of better opportunities and places where they will be given the value they deserve.

In my country, the government does not care about any sector, and not even the health sector, which is so important, is an exception, and this has caused the health sector to deteriorate even more as those who graduate after studying any health-related course strive to leave the country to serve in other countries with better opportunities and value what they have to offer. Funny how the government tried to arrest the situation; their strategy was funny. Instead of working on treating medical practitioners right, making their pay worth the service they offer, they made a standing rule that only those that have served in the country for a period of time will be allowed to travel out.

There are many medical practitioners out there that are frustrated with the new standing rule; many medical practitioners in this country want to serve their country and their people, but the ill treatment from the government is standing as a hindrance, and they now want to leave for places where they are treated better. My mom said the day her water broke with me was the same day medical practitioners went on strike because of unpaid salaries by the government. She said they asked to stand up, and they took the mattress she was lying on. Despite how much pain she was in, no one attended to her. She said the pregnancy almost caused the her, her life but she managed to survive.

One of the doctors then directed them to a private hospital where she was rushed to by friends and family, which is where she put to birth, and that brought about my name (Godwin) because God won the battle and the pregnancy was not the end of her. The health sector is an important sector of every country, and without it the entire country, especially the masses, suffers. In a functional country, the health sector of the country is not something the government takes for granted because they know that doing that puts so am y lives at risk, but down here things are different, not a single sector of the country is taken seriously.

Will a strike by medical practitioners force the government to take the health sector seriously?

As much as we have a government that does not care about anything, I believe a strike by medical practitioners will force them to sit up and do the right thing. Even though whatever solution they will come up with might not last, at least it will help the medical practitioners feel better while it lasts, and when it stops, probably another strike until we get someone in power that is willing to do things right and ensures whatever is done is one that is not temporary.

It's really the fault of the government that they don't pay attention to anything except their own and we suffer from all these situations especially when we need doctors in an emergency..... It's good to know that God helped your Mom at that time

This is one of the essential sectors for a society and the population, but many times management is a necessary evil as a way of raising awareness.

Healthcare in Nigeria is a pure disaster and I don't blame doctors who leave to work abroad. Over there, they get good pay, have access to a good work environment and equipment too.

Seriously, we can't blame those in the medical sector for any form of strike. They are also humans, and just like them any of us would retaliate if we give our all to save lives and we are not properly taken care of.

Many women experienced what happened to your mom, unfortunately some of them didn't make it. Your mom was lucky. Thank God for her life

The health sector in Nigeria is in shamble, only the Divine will save us from the situation we found ourselves. Those guys in government didn't care about anyone, their own is just embezzlement of public funds
