Content monetisation and its effect on our world.

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. Content monetisation is one of the many advantages that came with the advancements of technology and the existence of the many social media platforms that we have today. Thanks to technology, we can make money from the comfort of our homes and not have to step outside before we can earn or make money. Those days if you don't step out of your comfort zone, you are not making a penny, but today you can make lots and lots of money from your bed, and you have different means of doing so, not just one; you can earn from creating content and engaging on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, YouTube and TikTok and so many others.

Content monetisation has caused some to quit their jobs, and even those who were job hunting are no longer doing that. If you scroll through X (formerly Twitter), you will see users tweeting that X is a full-time job, and I cannot help but laugh. Content monetisation cannot be a full-time job; anything can happen, and at any point in time, the rewards for content and engagement on the platform can stop coming in, and then with nothing to fall back on, you find yourself at a level you left years ago and never imagined yourself back there again.

The truth is that content monetisation is a good thing, but we humans are trying to abuse it. Because of content monetisation, social media no longer feels like a safe space for kids anymore because of the explicit content many adult users post just to get engagement and also get rewarded for it. People are going extra miles just to make sure that they earn from content monetisation, and some don't even care what they put out there and who consumes whatever they put out there; as long as it brings them rewards, then it is no problem for them.

Content monetisation did not make people lazy because content creation is not as easy as some people see it; you have to put in a lot of work to achieve good content to put out there and then wait for the rewards to start flowing in, though this is actually for those who are genuine and putting out the right content out there. Why it feels like content monetisation made a lot of people lazy is because many people stop job hunting or even quit their jobs just to focus on content creation, which I do not advise or support. No matter how much content creation pays you, it is advisable to still have a physical job you can always fall back to in case things go sideways, as rewards for content creation vary, and there are times when you will receive way less than expected, and without backup funds, you find yourself struggling.

Is Just Any Content Worth Being Rewarded or Paid For?

Source

My answer to this is no, not every content put out there is worth being rewarded or being paid for. Some content has no meaning, passes no message, and has no impact on the life of those who consume it, so I think before content is rewarded or paid for, it should be scrutinised and confirmed to be worthy of being paid for.

Content that doesn't add value or meaningful deserve no reward of any kind. One should try to figure out the area of interest and targeted audience.

I remember following a content creator about comics...how he started and how he ended, with a studio at home! For sure he deserves the reward and he spend so much time doing that.
