Surviving Without the Internet: What Skill Would Save You?

The thought of waking up one day to realize that the Internet is no longer with us is even scarier. This means that there is nothing like connecting with friends online anymore, schooling online, working remotely, and NOT even our own Hive, and many more things that we enjoy today with the Internet.

The truth is that it will be so difficult to keep up with, considering how much we have gotten used to this online world with many benefits. But then, our forefathers lived without the Internet, right? And they survived it; life didn't shut down at any point during their time. They were still living life even though most things were tedious for them to achieve, but somehow, they navigated them all because originally, the Internet didn't exist with them. But what if the Internet is taken away from us? Can we survive it? Like still make a living without relying on the online space? What skill do I have to keep living without the help of the Internet?

The statement nothing lasts forever is one of those truths that most of us don't like hearing, but that's the reality. Today you may have secured a good-paying job, and tomorrow uncertainties may just unfold, and that becomes the final goodbye between you and the job. Will you kill yourself? No, but rather begin to look out for another source of living. Permit me to pray that the Internet is never taken away from us forever, but then, there is a need that we get a skill, not just an online skill, but a physical skill to position ourselves for the worst uncertainties of life.

I started an online course today, which is going to last for 7 weeks, all in the quest to gain a skill for a remote job, still. A lot of people rely greatly on the Internet to survive; there are business owners online, content creators, and virtual assistants. In fact, people resigned from their physical jobs and focused on working remotely, earning 10 times what they previously earned working physically. Imagine having the Internet down for some hours; it's already a problem for many, and that's how much reliance humans have on our online world to make a living. But the question is, "What if" for some reason, the world lost the Internet? What practical skill do I have that has nothing to do with the online space?

I wouldn't say that I am a professional tailor, but with the little knowledge I have with tailoring, all I need is to get better at it and start helping my life. My gender will always want to look good with their fashion sense regardless, so it's a skill that will continue to thrive. I began honing this skill while I lived with my aunty during my secondary school days, and even when I got married and relocated to Lagos, I kept going for part-time training. It looks like it's taking me forever to master the mathematical aspect of tailoring, but I know my problem: it's the time factor. I am always in a hurry to rush home and attend to my kids, but there will be a time to give it my all at once, and that time is no longer far.

Aside from the tailoring, I bake small chops for my family's consumption, and that can make a living as well for someone without relying on the online space.

This is my response to the #Hive ?Learners community contest on the topic titled, Practical Skills.

Those skill are high paying skills. They are people who have them as their real jobs and they are making it. Nothing last forever indeed, we just have to keep working hard now that everything is working fine.

😃😃

Nkem, if the internet should disappear now, omo..many people will suffer oo, especially those with no hand skills and aren't ready to learn because of their reliance on the internet. Of course, this isn't a bad one. Also, having practical skills is important. But I pray the internet doesn't go. A lot of us depend on it.

Ahhh! Thank God ohh. My Christmas clothe is covered. I don't need to pay to any other tailor again. Please 🙏 get all the best you can because I left tailoring since and today I am regretting. I will buy clothes for #5000 naira and use #15,000 to make it. This is a good one.
Thanks for sharing

Sewing is actually fun and brings a lot of money. Imagine being able to style and sew clothing for so many people while making money.

People will always wear clothes and so seamstress will always be in demand.

It’s always good to have a back up plan because no one knows what tomorrow holds as you’ve rightly said.

I have read several post related to the topic and reading some of those I felt I don't have so many skills like others. I am sure It's not like I don't have any, I just need to give some time to myself to think about it.
So, you can be a tailor if necessary. Don't worry, I will give you some order in such a situation.😅!LOL
