Rewiring My Mindset for the Life I Want

Life as we all know is the journey of the unknown. It’s like walking into a dark room not knowing if you’d trip or walk till you meet a light at the end of the room. But then, there’s hope. Hope that keeps us moving, hope of a better life and days ahead keep us moving. Growing up, I had life easier than most of my colleagues. I didn’t have to hawk on the street after school or anything of that sort. I was well cared for and I can say I lived a semi-luxurious life. But as some point, as you age all of these things stop exciting you. You know it’s a privilege, but then you have to build a life of your own. What you have been enjoying from day one on earth has been as a result of other people’s hard-work. So, when would someone also benefit from your hard work.

We live in a world where the average youth is expected to be a billionaire in society. As someone living in Ghana where the system isn’t really working for us all, how am I expected to have my breakthrough in my early twenties. I’m not saying it isn’t possible, it is possible but one thing you should know is, the journey for us all is different. We’ve all been at that stage where we starts to compare ourselves to others. Thinking our growth wasn’t substantial enough just because others were having quicker results that we were.

Out here, it’s easier to start comparing yourself to others. A statement from someone would have you questioning your entire existence and that would slowly lead you to start comparing with others which slowly leads to hate and honestly, that hate would make you a very bitter person for no reason. What you must do instead of envying those ahead of you is to get closer to them and learn from them. Those who succeed the most are those who are humble and learn from others. No one is too big to learn and know that success isn’t for everyone.

Currently, I’m learning to be patient with my journey and trust my growth process because growth comes in different forms for us a. As someone with many goals and responsibilities, I sometimes feel the pressure to achieve quickly and I am unlearning the habit of being too hard on myself. What I’m doing now instead of beating myself up all the time is me reminding myself that progress takes time. It’s not a one day thing, but a someday thing. Learning this is helping me stay focused while protecting my mental health. Now, I’m working towards my goals with a clearer and a calmer mind than ever and it all feels very right.

It isn’t an easy and comfortable road, but it’s a road worth the walk. Hard work without patience is like eating raw rice because you can’t wait to boil it. But we know what’s more delicious to consume. Take the days one step a time, be patient with yourself and life would be brighter and blissful for you.

It's really not easy to resist the temptation to compare ourselves with others and to want to rush process but all that won't lead us anywhere rather than to destruction.

That's a very good trait you are building, patience is something we need to win in life. It absence has led many to early graves...
