Taking a break from my Smart Phone.

In this day and age the vast majority of people own a phone device called a Smart Phone and we use it almost every day from the moment we wake up until we go to bed. With this technology we communicate anywhere in the world with friends and family as long as there is a phone or internet signal.

New applications are constantly coming out on the market that allow us to do work or activities much faster than before, and they have also allowed people to be informed and news to spread faster.

I in particular use my Smart Phone to communicate by WhatsApp with my clients at work or with a family member or friend who is outside Venezuela, I use Instagram because it allows me to search for offers on products and services that are useful to me, and X (former Twitter), is very useful to know the news instantly because in my country (Venezuela) they first have to go through the government filter before being published.

Through these phones we use the different social networks that exist. But the bad thing is that people communicate more by this means than personally and in some cases create addictions.

Due to the excessive use of cell phones, usually when spending much more time on social networks, depressive symptoms can occur when reading messages: discriminatory. Likewise, I have witnessed people who by attending the cell phone while driving causes traffic accidents.

Have we ever forgotten the cell phone at home or at work, causing anxiety because we can not send messages and read those received.

Some people find interpersonal communication quite difficult and prefer to do it through electronic messages and social networks. However, this will further reduce their interpersonal communication skills.

Everything mentioned above affects us and even in the field of our families and work, so I take a liberating break from these advanced technologies during meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner), these are times to share ideas and opinions with your coworkers, friends or family, and should not be interrupted by a message from a social network, or an untimely call that startles us in some way.

There is time for everything, and in my case from Monday to Friday, it is at dinner time that I can share with the family, my wife works and my daughter studies, this ensures hours of conversations in which we tell each other our day to day, exchange experiences, and even solve problems without any interruption from technology because our Smart Phones are off.

Personally, there is no technology that can replace spending quality time with my family, especially in the hours when we can finally be together, also at lunch time I have peace and quiet and I have lunch with a group of colleagues who also do not answer their cell phones.

There is another group that wastes their lunch hour using social networks, they are always in a hurry to finish lunch because it is time for them to return to work.

Let's make rational use of the Smart Phone and remember that we do not depend only on a phone to relate, it is important to be close to others personally, eye contact, and that our acquaintances feel that we appreciate and love them in a cordial, true and good way as today's technology advances, that they know that we are real people.

Technology should be at our command, and we as human beings should not be at its command.

Again I appreciate the opportunity to write a post in the Hive Learners community, it is very entertaining and the content I have enjoyed is exceptional. Greetings to all.

Smart phones are very good but over dependence on them can affect us badly. Keeping our cell phones aside to spend quality time with our families is wisdom. I am personally learning how to interact with people physically recently, I got too used to social media and I can't relate well with people physically anymore. I can be talking to someone on critical issues and be operating my phone, I noticed that is wrong and I am working seriously on it.

Little by little this addiction is cured, it is good to see that people feel that you are paying attention to them and not to a call or a notification of messages or social networks. This shows respect for others.

I totally agreed with you, spending quality time with family is so important, technology is not everything because it can never replace human and there is time for everything, there is time to press phone and so on.

Family time is too valuable to be wasted on distractions, and this action is multiplied by setting an example for your children and even your partner. With the family we learn from each other and transmit values, we reflect our soul and emotions, something that is difficult to do with a cell phone, and even if we try it turns out to be something cold without human warmth.

I agree with you, but there is time for everything, to share with the family face to face. I use my Smart Phone also to help me generate more income, but I am not glued to it. I have seen people going to the bathroom with this device.

A lot of things have changed and smartphones have taken over lots of things not because it has the power to do so but because we allowed it.

It should be at our command really but it is the other way around. We must create boundaries and have a limit to how much time we invest in our smartphones.

Very well said. This dependency dehumanizes us and we get used to not socializing personally.
