Look mom, a prisoner! [EN/PT]

Whenever I see an animal chained up or behind bars, I think to myself: “What crime did you commit?” We humans have a sense of justice that tells us that if a crime is committed and the person must be arrested, there must be a trial, because we want to be fair. But why don't we have this sense when it comes to animals trapped in zoos, if they have really committed any crime other than allowing themselves to be captured? It's entertainment and profit in exchange for the life of a living being, lives being wasted far from their habitat, and yet they say that we humans are rational, rational to the point of committing CRIMES against nature in all instances?

Zoos and theme parks exploit animals in exchange for profit, and these places are not meant to bring happiness, but rather sadness. Who enjoys seeing animals kept in captivity just for curious glances? “Look, Mom, an elephant!” “Look, Mom, this animal will never know what it's like to truly live, its life has been interrupted!” “Look, Mom, has this animal always lived in captivity?” Anyone who can enjoy seeing animals in captivity is as guilty as those who imprisoned them. Zoos seem so cool! Innocent lives that cannot even protest, demand their freedom, or truly live, are there only to feed the human ego.

I don't think zoos are cool. I know that many people find it fun to take children to these places so they can see animals up close that they would never have access to, but sometimes we don't even realize how much this practice supports a scheme to make money off the freedom of other living beings. We fought so hard against slavery that we ended up enslaving other beings. Are we so different from those who enslave people while animals are slaves to pure entertainment? No, I don't see this as a good thing in any way, and many may think, “Oh, but they are being well cared for and have food.” But even if that meant that everyone was well treated, I could offer you food and good treatment, and in return, you would be locked up for the rest of your life. Would you still accept it?

I have always been against keeping animals in captivity; even domestic animals should have their freedom. I went to a friend's house once and he “likes” birds, trains them to sing, and shows them off to friends and others who do the same thing; there are even competitions. They take birds from nature, lock them in a cage, and from then on, they become their toys. That day, I asked him why he did that, since it is a crime here in Brazil to keep wild animals in captivity, and he said he liked doing it. Well, that day I managed to release three birds from their cages. He almost killed me, and we never spoke again, but three birds are out there in the wild.

It turns out that we cry out so much for freedom, and when we have the opportunity to lock up an animal, we don't think twice. What hypocrisy! A zoo owner is no different from a guy who traps birds, no matter the reason, no matter if these animals need to be treated and would not live in the wild, after a while they were molded to be dependent on the care of a zoo, food in their mouths, and now they can no longer be free. But isn't it the fault of those who provided this? Wildlife has its methods, whether it survives or not, nature will decide, it is not up to us to use this as an excuse.

Who here would like to be locked up? We would not trade our freedom for anything, but we still insist on providing this miserable life to others. But let's go to the park, let's go to the zoo because this trip will be magical!

Yeah. I think that the animals needs some freedom just as you have stated. But we also need to consider the safety of people around those animals. Some of them are very dangerous and needs to be kept in check.
Thanks for sharing

Nature has its dangers; we just need to be careful.

Most of these animals in zoos are not even meant to be there in the first place. When you just see them, you know they’re not even being taken care of properly.

This is why I prefer the wild life park, the park is so large that animals have their freedom. The last time we visited wild life park my kids were so scared because monkeys came so close to us.....

This question is quite emotional ..putting my legs in the shoes of this animal, I will say no living things deserves to be locked up ..but it is what it is
