When Secrets Are Not Secrets: The Mind-Reading Dilemma

It's going to be a big problem in a relationship, there's no good side of it for any of the party involved and even though I've never actually had any experience of it, I've seen in movies to know it is one of the most stressful and complicating skill to have as a human... Being a mind-reader.

It's one of the reasons I say God Almighty is a supreme and mysterious being, He knows all our thoughts and even before we put them into actions. I can't imagine having such a powerful skill as a human and I'll be able to read and understand my partner's thoughts without words.

A story from a movie I saw sometime ago, talks about a guy who can read the minds of people including the lady he falls in love with. At first, he was happy about the power and he utilized it to make people around him happy and avoided bad intentions from people but that didn't last long.

When people start to find out that he can read their minds, including his lover, they began to grow distance away from him for the fear of just being an open book to him unnecessarily. His lover couldn't bear to be in such a relationship even though she didn't have secrets to hide.

For the guy, he found the power so overwhelming that he would use earphones wherever he goes, keep distance from strangers just to avoid hearing all the unnecessary complains and inner cries of the world. The good thing about this power is very little compared to the bad sides.

In a relationship where one partner has such a power, it wouldn't be easy for the other partner just as much as it won't be for the one with the power. Imagine being obligated to answer to every thought your partner thinks of, especially momentarily. It can be an overwhelming feeling.

For me, I wouldn't want to be in a relationship where we can't keep even some unnecessary secrets. I know relationships built on love shouldn't have secrets but we all know it's near impossible to have two lovers who know every little thing about each other no matter how long.

A mind reader in a relationship for me, would mean a lot of troubles and a very high chance of break up because we are all humans and honestly, that power isn't one a human should have. Human wants are insatiable, humans must complain, humans think regretful thoughts too.

Having a mind reader around would make a human want to be perfect, and a mind reader can use that power for evil and for good. If it's for evil, the parties involved gets hurt and if for good, the parties involved could also feel overwhelmed by it at some point when the excitement goes away.

I don't plan to keep important things from my partner but having all my secrets out without being told and even without me knowing they are out is a problem I wouldn't want to face in my relationship. It's why I don't appreciate or be with an overthinker or someone who tries to guess whatever I'm thinking and acts on the guesses.
