Little With Great Impact
There is this joy that comes when we do something for others without being pushed or forced, mostly when it's done with no expectations of anything in return.
Volunteering and community work are just ways we give back to society, be it participating in clearing the bushes in the community or rendering financial contributions for community development, among others.
I remember vividly the last time I actively volunteered for something without expecting anything in return was last year, before I left Akwa Ibom. My friend, a content creator, told me how he wanted to visit one village school and help them with things they are lacking, but he needed more financial support. I was really having not much money that time because I was preparing for my NYSC, but I decided to join in the good work and contribute in any little way I can.
The day came, and I was able to buy three dozens of exercise books and pens. When we got to the school, the students looked at us with surprise and anticipation. We looked like people coming down from the plane in their eyes; we went to the principal, and he gave us the floor. When we told them our mission, anyone could tell the excitement on their face was genuine. As we started giving them all we came with, the joy on their faces was indescribable.
After giving them bags, books, and pens, we had thirty minutes, as given to us by the principal, to motivate and encourage the pupii to believe in their dreams. What shocked me was when the principal asked one of the students to step out and appreciate us. One girl started walking out, and all the school looked at her in awe, surprised with murmuring from every side.
It was when she got to the podium and everyone expected her to talk that she said nothing. It was then I understood she was a shy person but drew motivation from everything we said and wanted to make a difference. I was proud of her for making an attempt. I encouraged her to do it like nobody was looking at her, and she did. Everyone was surprised and applauded her uncontrollably when she was done.
The overall experience taught me a great lesson. We don't need to have it all before we can make an impact in lives. All we need is that little act of kindness, spending time with someone that needs it as well as words of motivation. What we feel is small can be a lifesaver to those who need it.
So to volunteer is not only about giving out to others alone; it also centers on making an impact. It teaches empathy on the part of the giver and gratitude on the side of the receiver. It is only by putting ourselves in the shoes of others that can motivate helping them, no matter how big or small, that would improve our society and make the world a better place for everyone.

I believe that by putting ourselves in other people's shoes we end up "experiencing" the moment and learning little by little.
Exactly my dear.
I guess the girl is their best student but she got intimidated by you guys... that was a nice thing your friend did
Yeah, it was. Exactly what I felt.
