Gene Editing and the Future of Humanity: Should We Create ‘Perfect’ Children?

This is a publication based on the suggested topic proposed in the Hive Learners community through their discord, which on this occasion is "ETHICS AND MORALS".

Welcome my new and regular readers to my blog.

The topic for today is the perfect baby.

In an advanced society like the one we have today, there is a possibility that potential parents can have the opportunity to modify the genes of their children before they are born.

This brings many possibilities. Honestly, I think this would be a great improvement. Because if I become a father, which I do not want to do, but given the scenario that it was possible, I would choose to have a child who was very intelligent, who had artistic and scientific attitudes.

Above all, that it was resistant to common diseases, both in childhood and in adulthood. This because it would easily bring a human being, a citizen who is going to be very productive for the world.

In this way, being able to intelligently choose the genetic details of the child, you will be able to have better citizens and you will be able to have perhaps better family nuclei than there are today.

Due to the number of problems that there are currently at the level of the families that are very dysfunctional, precisely because they do not fit with the ideals of each one, I think it would be a good idea.

I would add improvements to these children, but I would not remove defects.

I would not remove that because I consider that a human being or a child without defects could not move forward. I would not have motivation, remember that our brain memorizes and improves and reactivates when it finds a challenge. The neurons do more exercises and electric impulses when they find a different situation, and it is what allows us to memorize.

The same thing happens at the level of learning with children. If we have children who are the closest to perfection, they will not be able to learn from their mistakes. And it is necessary that they have mistakes or defects.

The question of whether to do this, to be able to choose the perfection and genes of the children is correct or ethical, I think it lies in the moral aspect of each person.

Each person can have the right to choose the best for their life according to their belief and their faith.

There are, especially in religions, commandments that the church dictates in which human life cannot be altered.
But it is for reasons of beliefs and traditions that each church has and each doctrine.

This is something that has been the case since time immemorial and for them it is not ethical.

But from my point of view, what would be ethical is to let each person decide what they want to do with their life. If they want to have children genetically improved or if they do not want to have it, because simply forcing a person to do something is not ethical, it is completely unethical and morally wrong.

I always think that in the world you have to let people grow and do what makes them happy.

And if we have the opportunity to have a world where we can have modified human beings that are better, I think we are going to have a race and a world of tomorrow, today.

And this is inevitably going to happen because we are getting closer and closer to better with artificial intelligence and different things that sooner or later are going to be incorporated into the human body.

Whether they want it or not, this is going to happen, these genetic improvements are happening right now and they will not be able to stop, although many churches and many religions are opposed to them.

And this has been my point of view on the subject of today in this community.

I hope you have learned something and that you leave me your opinion below in the comments. Until a next publication.

Hi @manclar, I am not very clear why there is this widespread belief that genes are active, that they determine something.

Genes are like a cookbook, it is something inert that contains information. Whether the recipe chosen from the book turns out good depends on the skill of the cook and the quality of the ingredients, not on the information written in the book.

This may seem barbaric, but it is what leading geneticists such as Lewontin have been trying to explain for decades. A truth buried by the big industry (mafia) of transgenics.
I remain here, a big hug.
