Learning to Code Life

I believe that encoding and decoding are things we all do subconsciously in various aspects of life, such as social, professional, and romantic relationships. Who hasn’t felt that what a partner said meant something different from what was literally expressed? Men know what I mean.

The truth is that everything in life involves encoding and decoding, and a clear example of this is language.

That’s why I think it would be very beneficial for children to learn to code at an early age. Not only would it awaken their curiosity about how the world around them works—since everything in today's world functions thanks to programming codes—but it would also help them develop logic and apply mathematics in a practical way.

The beauty of code is that you have to pay special attention to details because everything is interconnected. If something is out of context, your code will let you know by generating errors.

Childhood is a special stage for learning because we are literally like a blank canvas—we have no preconceptions or prejudices, and we are tolerant of frustration when our environment is positive.

While coding is one of the new specialties of artificial intelligence, it is crucial for humans to be proficient in this science in order to audit the work generated by machines and not become completely dependent on them.

There is a short story by Isaac Asimov, one of my favorite science fiction writers, in which humanity forgot how to perform mathematical operations because computers did all the work. Eventually, the day came when machines were more valued than humans simply because they could carry out these operations.

Asimov’s vision is not far from reality, as human beings have always been valued and rewarded based on what they know how to do. Those who lacked practical knowledge in a field relevant to real-world needs were practically a burden to society. This has been true in all eras, and even more so in ours, where we are gradually being replaced by artificial intelligence systems that can perform tasks quickly and efficiently compared to human labor.

For these reasons and more, I believe that programming and coding skills should be considered among the new "soft skills" that every human being should master in order to adapt to the world's evolving needs and avoid being displaced by artificial intelligence systems and machines. We must remember that the human brain is the most complex machine in the universe, and we only use a very small fraction of its capacity.

We must not allow humanity’s potential to be wasted due to indolence and the convenience of obtaining everything we need without making any intellectual effort. This is something we must instill in children from an early age so that humanity continues to be the pinnacle of everything on Earth. *

Aprendiendo a codificar la vida

Creo que codificar y decodificar es algo que todos hacemos a nivel subconsciente en varios ámbitos de la vida, tales como las relaciones sociales, laborales y de pareja. ¿Quién no ha sentido que lo que una pareja le decía significaba algo diferente a lo que literalmente expresaba? Los hombres entienden a qué me refiero.

Lo cierto es que todo en la vida es codificación-decodificación, y un ejemplo claro es el lenguaje.

Por eso creo que sería muy beneficioso para los niños aprender código a una temprana edad, ya que además de despertar su curiosidad por cómo funciona el mundo que los rodea - ya que cada cosa del mundo actual está funcionando gracias a códigos de programación - les ayudará a desarrollar la lógica y a aplicar las matemáticas de forma práctica.

La belleza del código es que tienes que prestar especial atención a los detalles, ya que todo está concatenado. Si algo está fuera de contexto, tu código te lo hará saber porque generará errores.

La niñez es una etapa especial para el aprendizaje, porque estamos literalmente como un lienzo en blanco, no tenemos preconceptos ni prejuicios, y somos tolerantes a la frustración cuando nuestro entorno es positivo.

Si bien codificar es una de las nuevas especialidades de la inteligencia artificial, es muy necesario que los seres humanos estén capacitados en esta ciencia, para poder auditar el trabajo generado por las máquinas y no tener que depender de ellas.

Hay un cuento de Isaac Asimov, uno de mis escritores favoritos de ciencia ficción, en el que la humanidad olvidó cómo ejecutar operaciones matemáticas, ya que las computadoras hacían todo el trabajo, y llegó el día en el que las máquinas fueron más valoradas que el humano por poder justamente realizar estas operaciones.

Esta visión de Asimov no se aleja de la realidad, ya que el ser humano siempre ha sido valorado y recompensado por lo que sabe hacer. Quien no disponía de conocimientos prácticos para alguna necesidad del mundo real, era prácticamente un estorbo en la sociedad, y esto se refleja en todas las épocas, y más aun en la nuestra, en la que poco a poco somos desplazados por la Inteligencia Artificial que puede realizar tareas de forma rápida y eficaz, en comparación con el trabajo humano.

Por eso y por otras razones, creo que la habilidad de programar y codificar es una de las nuevas "habilidades blandas" que todo ser humano debería dominar para poder adecuarse a las nuevas necesidades del mundo y no ser desplazado eventualmente por sistemas de inteligencia artificial y máquinas. Debemos recordar que el cerebro humano es la máquina más compleja del universo, y que sólo usamos una fracción muy pequeña de su capacidad.

No debemos dejar que el potencial de la humanidad sea desperdiciado por la indolencia y la comodidad de obtener todo lo que necesitamos sin realizar un esfuerzo intelectual, y eso es algo que debemos inculcar a los niños desde pequeños para que así la humanidad siga siendo la cúspide de todo en la tierra.
