Having the ability to modify babies is good but...
The question:
"Will it be nice for parents, if they have the ability, to modify their babies such as genes, characters, and physical appearance?"
I want to be very neutral in response to this question.
First of all, have you ever come across the argument where some people say that if everyone on earth becomes rich, the world wouldn't function as it was designed to? They believe that some people are destined to be rich, average, or poor. On the other hand, some people see nothing wrong if everyone becomes rich.
This same line of reasoning is applicable to the question asked above.
To me, having the ability to create your own baby is very fine because the baby will be completely perfect according to how I want the child to be. There won’t be any form of sickness, especially those critical illnesses that claim babies' lives in their infancy, or any sort of deformity that often subjects the child to mockery, shame, and bullying. The whole idea is very appealing, especially with the fact that I would modify the children to have the best physical appearance. And just like I told someone, they would always be chosen to act as angels whenever their school or church is organizing a drama performance.... because of how perfect they'll be.
I love the whole idea because there would be no children suffering from sickle cell anemia. This also means that people with unmatched genotypes could get married and produce disease-free babies since they have the ability to create the baby exactly how they want.
The part of making babies that are highly intelligent is another thing.
The whole scenario sounds perfect and without any issues, right?
Okay, it's true that no one wants children to suffer in their infant years, but is that really how the world was designed to function?
If children are modified in such a way that they don’t have any reason to fall sick or be born with deformities, then the world could end up running without the need for doctors or anyone pursuing that field. People modified to perfection in their infancy could live healthily and only die when it's their time. Perhaps, the only time doctors would be needed is in cases of accidents.
Okay, leaving that aside—what about common lifestyle issues in regard to intelligence and human existence? Come on, everyone would be intelligent—or when you're modifying your children, wouldn’t you want to boost their intelligence to the maximum level? Imagine a situation where everyone is equally intelligent. No one would agree to be led by another, no matter the situation, and that could lead to major conflict in society.
This feature is just like our love for the idea of longevity. We want to live long, but no one wants to live forever, because one of the things that balances our existence on earth is death. The idea of making babies perfect in their creation sounds very good, especially in their infant stage. But when the world becomes dominated by such babies in their adult years, existence on earth could become troublesome for them because everyone would possess equal ability, since no one would want their children to have a low IQ.

I truly relate to your points Kingsley especially in the areas of no body will want to study medicine to become a doctor, but we are only talking of babies before they are born.
If they are born perfectly does not mean they will not be sick when they are grown and those sickness will just be minor. Not bringing children into the world 🌎 with disabilities and disease 🦠 before they are born should be the main focus.
Doctors will still have jobs to do when it comes to minor sicknesses.
