Time Management; This has an element of free choice attached to it.

One of the things I find interesting about our life is that we have A LOT of things going on at every given moment. It's almost like a series of activities are asking for a piece of us and it doesn't even end when we are sleeping. The more you think about it, the more you will get to see that everything we do with the motive of being in more control of our time usage often turns out to be a heck of an adventure.

Working with alarms,
Setting up schedules, and
Updating my daily to-do list.

These things have been unbelievably helpful in helping me be in more control of my time. And, it's not a sophisticated approach to time management. I try to keep it simple... Just prioritize the most important activities and start the day with those. And, I've come to realize that working with these doesn't only make me focused and efficient, but it gives me a sense of how valuable time is.

My experience with poor time management;

At the moment, I take pride in the fact that I've learned how to be more time conscious and a better time manager. However, there were moments in the past when I poorly managed my time and got burnt by the repercussion of that. The one I can still remember clearly was the day I got scheduled to come for my Covid19 vaccination. This was in the first quarter of 2022.

The appointment I had that day was for 9 a.m and the distance from my house to the hospital was estimated to be 45 minutes on average. The no-brainer would have been for me to leave home by 8 a.m. at the latest to be right on time for the appointment, but I woke up that day and some weird thoughts came over me. I decided to go for a quick morning jog.

Yeah! I connected my wireless headset to my phone, placed my music player on shuffle and left home for a jog. While there is nothing absurd about choosing to start the day with a jog despite my early morning appointment, the ridiculous part of my start to that exercise was that I failed to set an alarm.

To make matters worse, the weather was chill as we were still in harmattan season. It was that kinda weather where 11 a.m. feels like 7 a.m. Perfect weather to put in some work and break a sweat. Somehow, that felt like the best jog I had throughout that year, but I did it at the expense of my vaccination appointment.

By the time it crossed my mind that I had a pre-scheduled appointment, it was already 30 minutes before the time. I had to go back home and prepare for the vaccination. I left home that morning and got to the hospital an hour & 30 minutes behind my appointment time. It was a bizarre and horrific experience. Accreditation was already done and dusted for those scheduled for morning vaccination.

Mine had to be rescheduled to a later date and, this time around, I didn't mess around. I got there before the time, did my accreditation, took the vaccine and I was able to wrap all these up and get back home before noon.

Guess what I learned from that...

That experience, in addition to other poor time management decisions I've made in the past, made me realize that time management has an element of free choice attached to it. It's within our power to make good use of our time. So, I would say we can make an effort to make better use of our time or we can decide not to do it. The choice is always ours to make.

Before I end this, feel free to share any time management tip that works for you. It has to be tested and trusted. Hehe.

Nicely scripted.

I for one try to plan ahead to avoid lateness and try to stay organized

Exactly. Planning ahead of a schedule makes it easier to keep to time. I learned that and I've been sticking to it.

time management has an element of free choice

Yeah, totally depends on us to manage our time well, if we think it, work it, we can achieve it.

You are spot-on. It goes without saying that we can always achieve a lot once we decide to make the necessary effort.

Time management is always important and who manages it, wins the game and who does not value time management, loses. So it is always important to value our time and to make some better arrangements to manage the time.

You are on point. Time is always moving and we have to be the ones to do what's necessary in order to make the best use of our time.
