The question of what's morally right or wrong can make for a good argument especially when you see folks say things like "How do you know that it's good to be kind or humble". You know, when people enjoy the sound of their own voice, they can argue about anything they can lay their hands on.

One of the things that doesn't help this 'morality talk' is that a lot of people have found themselves in situations where they did things that are virtuous and morally acceptable, yet they got the short end of the stick while those with total disregard for virtue gets celebrated by the society.

Like I always say, everyone knows what's right. The same applies to our virtues. We all know things that are considered morally good and it's our responsibility to adopt those virtues and manifest them in everything we do. Think about it... There are a lot of virtues for us to embrace.

Things like;

• Genuine display of kindness

• Humility

• Eempathy, etc.

The list goes on and there is no hierarchy of importance for any of the virtues out there. However, Truthfulness is a virtue I expect everyone to have at the most basic level. Being truthful is not just something I admire, it's a virtue that can make a lot of difference in all sorts of interactions with people. It also makes you a very respectable person to be known as someone who's always truthful.

This virtue looks like a very simple one to adopt and I don't see any reason why anyone would find it hard to always say the truth. However, I'm not naive to the fact that a lot of people no longer have the courage or discipline to say things exactly how it is. People do one thing and say something completely different from what they did.

I don't enjoy dealing with people who I can't trust to say the truth and this can be traced back to the series of dramatic experiences I've had with people like that.

Somehow, those in Business think that lying about the quality of their product or service is now a business strategy. I can still recall when my laptop had an issue in the second half of 2022. It was a very painful experience because I spent a fortune to buy the laptop and I woke up one morning to see that the laptop was no longer booting.

At the initial stage, I thought the charger had issues but, when I tried several other chargers, I decided to take the laptop to technicians and get their expert opinion on what could be wrong. I was very careful about where to go for this because not all laptop technicians are capable of doing a perfect job. Meanwhile, I needed it to be done by someone who knows his onion.

After digging around, I picked out a very decent-looking laptop hub for the repair. The technician in the shop dressed well and he was quite articulate in his speech. He's also neat so, I decided to trust him to do the job.

After taking a look, he said the battery was the problem. The battery of my laptop cost 45k (Naira) at that time and I needed the laptop urgently. I said 'No Problem'. He got a new laptop battery, unsealed it and replaced it with what I have. Well, that didn't make any difference. The laptop was still irresponsive. Obviously, I didn't pay for that battery.

He tried a bunch of other stuff and assured me that the laptop would be okay the next day if I leave it with him. As I said, this is a very sophisticated laptop hub. I registered the laptop with the secretary and detached my hard disk, Battery and charger.

I went back the next stay and got some inspiring stories about how it will be fixed a day later. We went back and forth for a couple of days and he always had something inspiring to say whenever I gave him a call or even came to see the condition of the laptop. At a point, he said he bought some stuff online which would be used to fix the laptop.

All I ever wanted was to get to a point where the laptop would get fixed and I tried to believe his stories. However, a day led to a week and a week led to a whole month... No positive result came forth. At a point, he said the motherboard was the issue. To be fair, I didn't even bother. If that will fix it, no problem.

The only condition I had was that the motherboard must be a new one. He said OK. We went back and forth again for a few more weeks before I ran out of patience. That was when he finally came clean. It turns out he wasn't sure of what could be the problem with that laptop and he didn't say anything about that until almost 2 months. Wow!

He completely wasted both of our time by failing to be truthful from the moment I stepped into the laptop repair hub. This would have been the beginning of a very healthy technician-customer relationship. However, his failure to tell the truth made it impossible for us to do any other business.

Say the truth, folks. Always be truthful about everything you do.
