Civilization: Can you spot the visible transition that took place over the years?

I have always looked at the whole 'Civilization' talking point from an angle which I consider to be fairly interesting. I believe that civilization, just like globalization, is already a topic that's leading to a lot of debate and the radical folks wouldn't mind sitting back and having a long argument about why Civilization has caused more harm than good and vice versa.

Whatever! They are probably paid to do so on podcasts and TV stations so you can't take them too seriously. In the same manner, I would like to stick a foot into this civilization talk and share one thing I genuinely like about Civilization and one other thing that is said to be 'in the mud' because of Civilization.

Before we go any further, what do you know about Civilization?

Whatever you consider to be 'Civilization' may look trivial, but this is where knowledge of history plays an important part. If you have any clue about how things were done a century ago and the way people lived back then, it will be so much easier for you to lay hands on the visible transition that has taken place in recent years.

A lot of the changes that came with Civilization are very adorable. The improved standard of living, for example, is one of the most noticeable impacts of civilization. Even when there are so many good things about Civilization, there are still some sides of it that are not so impressive. I guess that's why this topic is worth looking into.

Let's look at one of each;

Improved Healthcare (A Positive).

I've always believed that improved Healthcare is one of the fundamental things that should exist in every society. I rate this very highly so that when people get some rashes on their skin, they can get some Panadol for a start instead of getting excommunicated and sent into exile where they will come face to face with the angel of death.

Oh, that happened and I've seen a lot of historical records of such occurrences to know that it's not some made-up moonlight tale. Healthcare sucked back in the day and it's really sad to see that it still sucks in some parts of the world where everyone seems to be fighting against civilization.

Nonetheless, those who opened their arms to the goodness of civilization can attest to the fact that something as complex as organ transplant is now as easy as taking a dump. Think about that for a second.

Over-dependency on Technology (A Negative).

Technology is improving by the day and we know we will be blown away by more techs that are on the way because they are gaining lots of traction in the market and consumers are breaking the bank to get the latest techs in the world. Take robots and AIs for an example. There are already lots of those out there and there is no limit to what can be done with these AI techs.

At the moment, some people's lifestyle is built around full dependency on techs. All our money is digitalized. Most people's assets are also in digital form. What's more? There are so many technologies out there that make life so much easier for people.

If I'm to be brutally honest, I must say that the only reasonable argument against civilization, as regards people's dependency on tech, is the whole fossil fuel talk and the danger it poses to the environment. That aside, I have no problem enjoying the comfort that comes with having techs all around me. If I have the means, I will also have a device that will cook meals for me at my command.

There is no doubt that civilization has lots of positives and some vague negatives. By the end of the day, it's all about people, their values and the level of discipline they have. I believe we owe it to the previous generations to make the best use of the access we have to civilization. I'm not going to trek for hours because I want to save the planet. Not when I have a nice car that can make life so much easier for me.
