What If I Chose Differently?

I made a lot of good memories in school and there were many times I thought about what would have happened if I had attended a different school. Would I have made the same good memories? After we graduated from high school, a few of my friends decided to pursue our next interest at the same university. Of course, there were those who
decided to go down different paths. We were about 8 friends who promised to attend this university, which I recently graduated from. Life happened and just three of us made it in. The three of us started our university journey as naive students. I remember how we ran from one building to another in our days as freshers. I enjoyed most of the things we did together. Now, if I had attended another university instead, would I have made good memories or would I have regretted it?

This brings me to today’s Hive Learners’ prompt. The title for today’s prompt is: Without That University/ College. How would your life have turned out if you went to a different university or college? The truth is that things would have been better if I had picked a different university. There are actually a lot of reasons why I think my life would have turned out better.

First off, electricity. Before I gained admission into that University, one mistake I made was that I didn't do my research. If I had done that, there is a very high probability that I would not have picked this university. It was too late before I realized I had made a terrible mistake. The electricity in my school is terrible. If there is a word that is worse than terrible, then that word should be used to describe the condition of electricity in my school. Throughout the four years I used there, I kept going from one charging center to another. When I started making money on Hive, I had little money to buy a generator and to start buying fuel to turn it on. The lifestyle was not easy at all. There were times I had to prepare for tests or exams, but I had to find ways to charge my devices first.

If I had picked a different university, one where electricity is reliable, I would have more savings, more time to read, and better preparation for tests and exams. But well, it is what it is.

Academically, things would have probably gone better. Throughout my stay, more than 60% of the lecturers did not take their job seriously. A few of them did their best, but most of them did not even bother to show up to class. All they would do is to send materials to students and expect them to read and pass all by themselves. It was really bad. I remember one course that made my coursemates cry. The title of the course is Discourse Analysis and pragmatics. The course was bulky and complex and it was even more difficult because no lecturer was there to guide us. So, yes, maybe I would have taken academics more seriously if I had attended a different university.

However, when it comes to the people I met, I can't imagine what the past 4 to 5 years would have been like without them. Although I had ugly experiences, I made friends with good people who taught me a lot of things. I had good memories and I am not sure if I would have made memories as good as the ones I made if I had attended another university.

In conclusion, if I had gone to a different and more standard university, my life would probably have turned out better than the way it is now.

Thanks for reading.

Do you think you needed all these experiences you mentioned so as to prepare for whatever life throws at you in the nearest future? Personally I think you have seen enough shege that nothing will shake you anymore.

Omo, I can’t imagine being in a school with unstable electricity. I will just go back to my fathers house cos I can’t.😂

As for the lecturers not being serious, we’ve all met those kinds but I didn’t think it could get that bad.

At least, there’s something good to think about from your last 4 years in university

For the electricity part, yeah things would have been better but that academic part, I think it's in over 80% universities. So many Lecturers are so unserious with their jobs. 😅

Still great to know you made beautiful memories even from a terrible electricity area lol.
