RESPECT SHOULD BE ACCORDED TO A TEACHER

Spare the rod and spoil the child. I can remember when I was younger, teachers were respectful in society. They are the people who shape us in school when our parents aren't watching.

They try to impact us and correct us, hold our hands and walk us on. Sit us down and advise us like we are their own kids.

When I was in primary 5 there was something my class teacher did which I used to remember her up to date. I will say I wasn't a bright student then, I was struggling with my academics and to crown it more. My class teacher separated us based on our last term results.

She placed the bright student aside and at least average ones a side then the dummies in the class she also placed them differently. In my own opinion it will affect the child but socially because it felt like stigmatization but for me it wasn't because I tried to work extremely hard so my classmate won't see me as a dummy anymore.

I was ashamed of being called that but at least it helped in my level of academics and this is something I can't forget about that teacher.

In our current world now, teachers have the right to correct children aside from the far walls of education. It is said, a parent isn't the only one who trains a child, society does too, religion does too and even the people we call friends have a way of impacting us.

If a teacher sees a child misbehaving in society should correct that child but then we forget one thing that keeps fading everyday which is respect.

Most teachers have lost their respect in the hands of students even in school, you will get to see a teacher being disrespected by a student and most of them can't do anything about it because of the rules guiding the school.

Most schools place a ban on beating up a student but then what happens when that child misbehaves and all you are left with is shouting at the child who in turn talks back at you simply because she knows you can't do anything less to her, they take advantage of the opportunity.

I could remember when I was in boarding school and the stories of most students who went to report to their parents about how a teacher beat them up, by visiting day, the parents will be waiting on the teacher sometimes the teacher will end up being confronted by the so parents or worst case scenario slapped just because she disciplined a student.

It's not easy to be a teacher, I respect and admire them so much but then parents should tone down the level of disrespect they accord to teachers. I could remember the stories I was told about teachers in the olden days, how they are feared and respected but then you can't compare it to now.

So many things have gone wrong especially when it comes to respecting people who are above us.
