Celebrating The Season; My Unchanging Celebration Routine.
It's that time of the year when we see decorations everywhere and the spirit of celebration takes over everyone regardless of tribe, gender and even religion. Although Christmas doesn't feel like it used to be when we were kids but you can definitely tell it's the season because there are signs of the holiday already.
The weather, a few Christmas decorations in the neighbourhood and the sounds of knockout remind me that it's December since this is the time of the year when people get to use firecrackers as they wish. December is the laziest time of the year for me because I am always looking forward to the holiday. During the time I was working with a company, I always felt like I shouldn't even go to work and once we go for the Christmas break, you won't see me at work until the New Year.
The season means a lot to me and I won't deprive myself of the beauty it. It's a special time of the year to reunite with my loved ones, spend time with my family and rest as much as I can.
The prompt made me think about my plans for the holidays and I realized that I don't have any because I have been running the same Christmas routine for a few years now so it's just a fixed thing and I don't see myself changing that routine this year.
Unlike my childhood and teenage years when I always had lots of things on my mind which included visiting people just to taste different delicacies that day, I love to stay indoors during the festive season as an adult and I am used to that way of life. Holidays are meant to be fun and anything other than what I do currently can eventually turn out to be stressful for me.
A few years ago my cousin wanted me to come to the village so that we could meet each other for the first time and after considering the transportation fare and the hours I would spend on the road, I turned down the invite because I consider the holiday for rest and not stress.
Despite following the same routine every year, I don't find it boring because the holiday excitement is always the same for me. My activities during the festive season can be referred to as my plans so I will just share them and you will get to know why doing the same thing every year isn't tiring for me.
Spending Quality Time With My Family
People who know me very well would know how much I cherish spending time with my family. It's not like we don't spend quality before the season but the Festive Season feels special. We have them to reflect on the season's beautiful memories we have had in the past and we get to make new ones as well.
It is always fun, we stay mostly indoors playing games, and watching movies and I get to choke them with all the recipes I have learned throughout the year. We get to talk about personal issues, our challenges and how we can help one another, it has been a tradition and all these make our bond stronger.
We spend time outside as well but not much because only two among us are extroverts, the rest of us love to spend time indoors.
Hangout With A Few Friends
I am not the type who keeps lots of friends and among the few, I barely see them throughout the year so the festive season is an opportunity to meet and catch up with whatever is happening in our lives. This is just inevitable for me because the year I decided not to hang out, I offended them and it took more than another hang-out to apologize.
It wasn't cool even for me because I started missing them and there was no way we could fix things because some of them weren't even in Lagos.
Putting Smile On People's Faces.
I am actually stuck on this at the moment because of what the prices of things are in the market at the moment. Inflation and the crippled value of Naira aren't helping matters, I don't know how to go about this yet but I know God will make a way regarding this.
With or without plans, the season will definitely be an awesome one as usual and I pray that we all celebrate in good health, sound mind and happiness.****
When I started working and had my own money, I guess my unchanging routine is preparing desserts and giving some gifts to kids ☺️
I'm curious about the weather in Nigeria in December. Do you have cold season too?
It's currently the Harmattan season right now but we experience heat during the day and cold at night. It's not very cold but it's better than the terrible heat here.
We all have this unchanging routine, those kids will be happy to get those yummy desserts from you.
Yes o the season is a joyful one. Your plans for the holidays are simple, stress less but fun filled.
Cheers
You get my point perfectly, it has to be completely stress free. I love it very simple.
Alright... take care
It is quite an interesting one to spend time with family despite how engaging it may be. The part were everyone gets to be fully happy is when there is a full house because in a gathering of above 2 we all have our specific roles to play.
Let's share the love
!luv
Spending time with my family means a lot to me and I wouldn't trade it for anything during the season except if money is involved.
With more money, I can spoil my family for the holiday.
👍 ❤️ Upvoted ❤️ 👍
There is this special vibes that December carries that each time it's December, I just feel happy 😅 I don't know whether it is because of the Christmas rice and chicken😄 But I am certain it is the love... the love that connects us together in every Christmas, I love that feeling.
Yes ooo, December comes with this awesome vibe. We just automatically find ourselves in it and we blend in smoothly.
