HOW I STAND AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FOR MY NEIGHBOR

To stand up for someone else is to express your support or take a stand against someone who is being mistreated, bullied, or marginalized. It entails empathetic behavior, standing up for their rights, and advancing justice and equality.

One thing I detest the most is abuse. I find it abhorrent when people abuse or bully others, Unfortunately, some people enjoy that kind of behavior, which makes it extremely difficult to advance our country.

My neighbor has been in an abusive marriage for many years, and she is a generous and kind-hearted person. I detest seeing people in pain around me and I love to defend the oppressed wherever I am.

We didn't really know each other when I first moved to the area, but we did say hello to each other whenever we crossed paths. As time went on, we grew closer, started talking, and always had each other's backs.

She has been married to this monster of a husband for eight years, and during that time, she has never enjoyed a single week of her marriage. The man has been decorated with a devil's garment the entire time.

How do I know this?
The majority of the night is always a war for the woman, we do hear noises coming from their apartment, and their kids will come out to sit and cry. We all know that the man is around because he has constantly beaten his wife, which has turned him into a monster.

When I saw the woman's body covered in bruises one fateful day and she told me everything, I was determined to help her because there was no improvement in her condition. I also decided to confront the man whenever this foolish behavior surfaced.

As fate would have it, I was in their apartment this afternoon when this man arrived. We greeted him as usual, and he demanded his food, which the woman refused to prepare because she was too tired that day. The man did not take into account my presence in the apartment, and the next thing I heard was a slap on her face. I was astounded and just stared at the entire scene.

As the woman turned to face him again, I heard more slaps, so I moved in closer and told him to stop. He turned to face me, saying, "What's my business?" not realizing that I had recorded everything that happened and had promised to deal with the man.

He thought I was joking when I told him that I would report his behavior to the human rights office and that he would be responsible for all the emotional distress he had caused the woman. I also informed the wife about my plan to report his actions, and she agreed.

The following day, I brought the case to the attention of a politician in the area who helped connect me with other interested parties. When the investigators arrived at the house to question the wife, the husband entered and denied the accusations, but with the help of my record, the woman was able to get justice from the man. The woman was freed from all of his abuse because they threatened to put him in jail if he touched her again.

Take action to stop abuse when you witness someone being singled out. Encourage policy changes that will make the environment safer for everyone to live in.

Know that standing for others can be difficult and uncomfortable, particularly if it contradicts popular belief or could cause criticism. But we mustn't give up and keep speaking up for people who need assistance. We can build a more inclusive and just society if we work together.
