The Benefits Of Incorporating Social Media Education As A Course In Schools

Social media is one of the greatest inventions of our time. It suddenly made life fun and easy. You can be anywhere and unite with your loved ones at a low cost.
You can share your opinion the way you wish without anyone asking you to take back your words, except in the case where the community rules don't permit it.
One has the liberty to reach a greater audience and even have access to people that ordinarily, he/she can approach in real life.
Everyday, social media seems to be improving, the thing has gradually evolved from just being a space for communication into a place to earn, learn, and be entertained as well.
But it is so sad that some people are using these spaces wrongly. As good as social media is, it has contributed so much to some of the decadence in our society today.
Because of how free and open social media is, some people get the wrong information resulting in their fall today.
It hurts me when I see young people using social media to destroy themselves, posting and learning from content that is harmful to both themselves and society.
These things call for concern. If social media were included as a course in secondary schools, it would do us so much good.
The majority of the people embracing the wrong side of social media are victims as a result of ignorance. We only woke up one day and started using social media without anyone telling us the good and bad sides.
Some of us learned our lessons the difficult way through experience but it doesn't have to be so for everyone.
As innocent as social media is, it kills and it can give life. It has the power to shatter destinies and render one useless and it can also make one profitable.
Imagine a child learning about social media from secondary school, before he/she graduates, I am certain they would be full of knowledge. It would now be left for them to choose which path to take.

Introducing the course will not solve all the problems, people are people, and no matter the kind of information you give to them, you won't be able to choose any of them.
But it will reduce the rate at which social media is doing harm to society, the number will drastically reduce, and some people will definitely embrace the knowledge and walk in the right path.
No matter how stubborn the heart of a person is, knowledge has a way of instilling some portion of fear in them. People will still do wrong things on social media no doubt but it won't be as terrible as it is now.
How I wish that before we are allowed to start using social media, each of us would be properly educated by the platform and given a test first, until one passes such a test, he/she shouldn't be allowed to use the platform but it's not possible, some people will cheat and some might not even take the information seriously, they would only learn to pass.
The idea of bringing social media as a subject in high school isn't only going to address the negative impact of social media on society but it will also open the eyes of the young generation to the numerous opportunities that lie in social media and how to utilize them for their good. This may reduce poverty and the rate of unemployment worldwide.
The downside to this that i can think of now is that it may empower those who already have evil intentions the more and also the teachers delivering the knowledge might not have adequate knowledge of the field, thereby delivery poor or incomplete information.
It really hurts when I see people misusing social media. They themselves don't know how dangerous it is. So they need formal education about it so they understand the negative aspects.
That's the exactly my point. Some people are abusing social Media ignorantly . With a formal education, I am sure things will change
