Solo trip across Nigeria

One of the best ways to travel the world is by reading books, but a person who travels the world sees things for themselves and also has a firsthand experience better than someone who reads. That is not to say reading isn't good, though.

The world is filled with people with different minds and ethnicities, and traveling gives one the privilege of being able to share in the rich cultural heritage of different people with different cultures.

The land of Nigeria is blessed with about 300-plus ethnic groups and a landmass of about 923,768 square kilometers. Nigeria is one of the largest countries in Africa.

A solo trip across the nation at a time like this could take several months because I will take my time to understand some of the culture in special places of interest and also visit special tourist centers.

A solo trip across the country will give me an opportunity to make new friends and experience the cultural diversities and coordination in Nigeria, and also give me an opportunity to try out various foods from the different ethnic groups we have in the country.

I have traveled a little, and in my little experience of traveling across the nation, I have been to Imo State and Cross River State, and most recently I was in Abuja in December, and of course it was my first time in the city of Abuja.

I noticed this: there are lots of rocks. I mean, a large expanse of land has been covered by rocks, and the sight of those rocks was such a beauty to behold for me, considering the large expanse of land they occupied.

Something even made those rocks more interesting, and that was the fact that some of those shocks provide shelter for some communities.

Driving across the nation right now, I come across some very scary challenges. I must say one of the major issues is the fact that insurgency has been on the increase with the rate of kidnapping, which has become very alarming.

Apart from my most recent trip, which took place in the month of December from Abeokuta to Abuja, the last time I traveled was in January 2025,
I came back from Delta State after a visit to my parents, and that journey left me with some trauma because of the road conditions, to the point I called my parents; and told them if I didn't have money to book a flight ticket, I wasn't coming back to Delta.

Aside from the challenge of insecurity and bad roads, taking a trip across the country is something that I am so willing to do because it is going to be a time of reflection since I'm going to be traveling alone. I'm going to have time for reflection and connection, make new friends, learn some new things, unlearn, and know the reasons and history behind some ethnic practices, so it will be totally worth it. Embarking on a solo trip would be lots of fun but the risk and stress isn't worth it.

Especially with the rate of insecurity a solo trip is like a journey to the unknown
