The perspectives on abortion have been filled with controversies as different people having varying beliefs to whether or not it is a necessity in today's society. This heated argument is a heated battle between two distinct sides - morality/religion and personal choices. People on the side of the former back their claims on the importance of human life as abortion stands in the way of that, as long as the egg has been fertilized and is alive in the belly the baby should be given the opportunity to live, anything other than that is murder which is still a cruel act to both humanity and God. The latter on the other hand stand in the opinion of abortion being the choice of the mother. If she feels like she is not ready to take care of such a responsibility, it is her choice to get rid of it even without the consent of the sperm donor( the father). Everybody has an opinion about this topic and I too fall without this category.

My father always told me never to give advice on something I did not properly understand or have no experience with. I used to think this does not apply to everything as there some topics that do not require this level of involvement for one to give solid opinions. There are certain situations people go through that when you advise them on it you think you are giving them the best solution until you find yourself in that very state and the advice you once gave becomes questionable.

As a boy I used to believe that abortion was out of the question. There was no way I was ever going to recommend such to anybody because I say it as murder and the complications that comes with it sometimes usually leads to irreversible damage. This ideology stuck with me for years, preaching it to anyone who cared to listen until I was confronted with it for the first time. While I was still in school my girlfriend played a heavy prank on me a few days to exams. She told me she was pregnant and was very confused on how to handle the whole situation as we were both in it together.

After she was done talking about this recent development, my mind became foggy and for the first time in my entire life, abortion did not seem so bad after. Breaking the news to my parents was the least of my worries, rather the responsibility of being a father and the fact that she would definitely put her life on hold plagued my psyche. I could barely think straight and if she had said she was going for an abortion, I would not object even though I had always preached about it. Luckily for me that was all a prank but that fear never left me till this very day.

After that whole event, my views on abortion became very flexible. I don't look at it with so much distain just like the way I used to. There are certain situations were abortion becomes the only logical solution. For example if a girl is pregnant, runs some tests and discovers the baby will definitely have health complications that will prevent it from living a normal life,it is okay to abort it instead of allowing to to suffer a miserable life and that of its parents as well. On the decision of abortions I believe fathers also deserve a say in this matter as well even though the final decision will always fall on the mother because it always affects her directly. Overall couples should always be careful and play it safe to avoid being caught in-between a rock and a hard place.
