The government should be accountable to the taxes

Tax is indeed taxing. The rate at which money is deducted from people's salaries at the end of the month is alarming. It pains me that the government doesn’t put the money into infrastructure; most times I ask myself where the government is putting all this money and what they are doing with it. I keep asking myself, What exactly am I paying for?

There is nothing wrong with paying tax because it is used for the infrastructure of the country, but coming to my country, our government embezzles the money they get from taxes. There is no month that they deduct money from my salary. I was coming back one day from work, and to my greatest surprise, I saw some people taxing an old woman. They said it was a local government levy. Wow, we are doing too much in this country. The government keeps taxing the poor masses, and they don’t utilise the money; rather, they use the money to enrich their families and their generations to come.

With all the money from the tax, the citizens still say the country is still in bad condition. I don’t know if it is bad if the government should use that money to tax the citizens to provide the basic things for the citizens. It is so painful that after taxing these citizens, they will still lack the basic things the government should provide.

See that every month a certain amount of money is deducted from my salary all in the name of tax, but I don’t enjoy things I am supposed to enjoy.

Electricity has always been the major problem; there is no steady power supply. Most times we will stay up to three months with no power supply, but we will still be paying for something we didn’t use.

Roads: when it comes to bad roads, my country should be tagged among the first ten. Once we enter the rainy season, the roads are too bad; the dry season is the only time we manage the roads.

Taxes are meant to help the government bring development to a country. Paying our tax is our civil duty, but it is painful that after collecting the money from the citizens, they give nothing in return.

Let me poop up the big question: what is the government doing with the taxes that the citizens pay? The government should be accountable for the taxes they collect from us because I don’t see anything they do with the taxes they collect from citizens. I am disheartened that they will tax poor people and embezzle the money.

Paying tax is our civil duty. Taxes help the government to develop countries and help in infrastructure. When it comes to my country, tax is taxing. We pay, and we don’t get anything in return. There is no development. Seriously, the government should be accountable to the tax, the levy, and the citizens.
