We Need That Spirit!!!
There are so many things that I would love to bring back to life, there are people I would love to bring back to life. There are devices that have gone obsolete that I just wish that we can return to how life used to be back then. From devices, to people and way of life, there are so many things that would be improved greatly if we decided to take lessons from the pages of history.
Sadly, not everything has had the privilege to ‘age like fine wine’. For some, their absence has only made things worse, and society has only suffered as a result. But then, what can we do? The further we go, the harder it seems to go back to how things used to be. At this point, reinventing extinct things might not even work out anymore.
However, for me, what would be the one thing I would love to bring back to life? It would be our communal spirit. That is a part of us that sadly, as the world keeps advancing, gets more and more eroded. And from the look of things, we might never be able to return to that period. Or at the very least a period like it.
“It takes a village to raise a child” was a saying that was very much true about us back in the day. A period where neighbors who bore no blood relationship with you could genuinely look out for you, no strings attached. That was a period when you could be comfortable letting your child play out in the streets knowing that they would be safe. Or allowing them to go visit their friends, knowing that as long as there is an adult there, then they are safe.
Sadly, we’ve lost all that. You can’t trust your neighbors, and you can’t even trust another adult with the well-being of your child. The world has spoiled so much that it’s even a risk to take your eye off your child for even a second while in public. There is no more trust among neighbors, but an unhealthy competition and jealousy. When you buy a new car, instead of your neighbors to be happy for you, they get jealous and try to bring you down. A wicked landlord will see it as a reason to increase the rent of the house.
Now, the world is filled with predators and bloodsuckers, hence the reason everyone has to be so damn careful when posting personal stuff online because you don’t even know who is reading them and what they could do with such information.
I would bring back the period where people genuinely cared about each other, and they were indeed their brother’s keeper. When people sympathized with your plight instead of feigning care in front of a camera. A time when people shared the little they had, knowing that if the tables were reversed, they would get the exact same treatment. That is a world that I would love to bring back.
Because, for today, we don’t have it at all! Everyone is always on guard, everyone is fighting everyone else to protect the little they have. And the more time passes, the worse it gets. As people find more solace in social media and in technology, we lose more and more the bonds that hold us all together. We really need this bond because without it, are we really a society?
I guess time will tell.

Thank you for this.
I remember that saying that it takes a village to raise a child like it was yesterday but it’s all gone. Now, it takes a smart device and social media to raise a child 😂, lost generation indeed. Technologically advancement is great but it also has its odds and it only gets worse by the day as communual living is being destroyed
Yesso... we're losing communal living and I don't think we can ever get it back. Just sad!
