A Right to Fight!

Why exactly do some people fight? Why do we have revolutionaries? These are people who take up arms to protect their rights and also fight for the freedom and prosperity of their people. But then, if that goal is achieved, will they still go ahead to keep fighting? Or will they simply call it quits and move on with their lives? This is something I’ve always wondered.
Because many times, I can’t help but realize that a lot of the time, people only fight just for the sake of fighting. They hate an administration or an institution simply because they need to hate it, not entirely because the individuals there have done anything terrible or careless. They simply hate everyone who associates with it, and that leads to the resistance that they’d show to every single person who represents them.

A good example of this is the Police Force, if you’ve had only one encounter with them, it’s enough to scar you for life. The trauma never leaves you, and as a result, you begin to look upon everyone who wears that cloth as the same thing. Once you learn that a particular individual is a police officer, you won’t even bother to give them the benefit of the doubt, you’d just assume that they’re corrupt and wicked, like all the bad cases we’ve been hearing.
As the child of a police officer, one of the worst things you can do is to post your parents on social media, whether celebrating their birthdays, promotions, or even their burial. They’d get a lot of hate comments, not necessarily at their person, but mainly at the institution they represent.

Thus, this attitude only makes it worse for the good officers to actually do their jobs. When they’re genuinely investigating a case, people would go out of their way to avoid them, avoiding questions because they don’t want any ‘police wahala’. And it makes their jobs difficult, because the actions of the bad eggs are ruining things for them. So, when people call for a reform in the police system, it’s not just for them to stop the harassment and corruption, but also for the people to find them more trustworthy. You’re meant to feel safe when you’re with the police, not have your life and freedom flash before your eyes. Unless you’re a criminal, of course.
And so, I wonder, if all these bad things stop, are we still going to have revolutionaries? Are there people who prefer things to be terrible just so they can be relevant? Because they feel that when things are going smoothly, they’d have no place in such a society? Why am I asking this? I just noticed that one of the Eastern Governors in Nigeria has been getting a lot of criticism despite all the good work he has been doing in his state.

The majority of his people are happy, life has improved, and he has even signed that the elderly will get free healthcare and allowance. These are good things that promise a prosperous future. But for some reason, there are still people fighting him, claiming that he’s not doing anything. Yeah, we can say that they’re politically motivated, but then, what about those who aren’t? What about those who just want things to be terrible so that they can say that they were right all along?
You see, there are people like that, who would rather the world burn down than admit they’re wrong. Some people are actually happy about the situation of the country and the suffering everyone is enduring, simply because it proves their theory. If by a stroke of luck, this administration had worked out for the people, many of them would not have been happy.
Well, it is what it is. There will always be those who just want what’s best for themselves and their people. And then, there are those who only want someone to hate and fight.

Changing the mindset of people takes time. People suffered many decades and it's indeed hard to believe good thing happening. In fact, good things can be a long term trap also and people have the right to doubt about a thing that was not in good condition in the past.
