Waste Management In My Area

Waste management is a necessary act for every individual in a locality. There are many reasons to dispose of waste, aside from health factors, it would always keep the community clean and tidy. A littered environment tends to breed harmful insects and animals which would be unsafe to us. Another important thing about waste management is that it reduces pollution.

One funny thing I've come to realize is that in recent times we tend to recycle a lot of things that were considered waste before now. Some of the things we gave less or no value to in the past are becoming valuable nowadays. All thanks to the recycling system.

There were times when cartons were waste and you would see people dispose of and burn them. Shops that make use of it will just give them out as they wish. But now when you ask for a carton, they will have to give a price on it. Why? This is because they know that there are some people who come around to buy them at a meaningful price, and they also pile them up and resell them to the recycling companies.

Another item you can hardly find littering the streets now is plastic bottles. They have been recycled and thereby given it some worth that you hardly see them littered around. Even at parties these days, they might not even allow you to patiently finish drinking your bottle of water. So far the water level has gone below half, they’ve packed the bottle from your presence.

In my area, most times people dispose of their waste to these waste carriers, they have their push truck they use for offloading wastes from different households for some amount to be paid in return for their service. Then they will dispose of it to a bigger waste tank or incinerator.

Funny enough is that some households don't see this as an effective way of waste management. They prefer to pile up their waste at different angles of their home. Then they patiently await the moment when there is heavy rainfall. Once it starts raining heavily you will see them dispose of all their dirt into the sewage system and gutters close to them. I don’t know how possible that will be when the flood packs all of those waste to someone else front yard.

The worst set of them are those who are just so selfish and don't care about the well-being of others. They take their wastes and dispose of them into other people's compounds just to keep their own environment clean.

Only if we can get to have our waste valuable for recycling then it will surely reduce the amount of waste we have. Especially all of these polythene bags and nylon stuff. Most of them don't decay over the years. Just the way the bottling companies take back their empty bottles, other companies should also try to do the same to their products.

This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in the hive-learners community for the Week 160 Edition 2 and the topic to be discussed is RECYCLING PRACTICE

You can also pick up garbage and bottles and post it to the CleanThePlanet community! Amazing things that Hivvers are doing :D https://peakd.com/c/hive-150210 Check it out

You are right to recycle, because reusing materials is better than destroying them. And there is great harm from burning plastics and it should be discouraged. Better to find creative ways to use the material than to add it to the atmosphere and put greater risk to all life on the planet.

Yes I agree with your article and also feel that the 'reusable bags' are another ecological disaster that is beginning. I did calculations and the cloth bags must be reused 9000x times to offset their carbon usage. So please re-use bags, make things out of them, put them to use.

They are not to be discarded so easily, and will not be either. I am open to your ideas, when I am at the store people say "I forgot my bag but I have so many at home already". I think we can all think about this and make suggestions, no one person has all the answers but maybe together we can figure it out.

I can relate to many examples that you have provided like some people dispose off wastage and other people just let waste to pile up and they wait for rain. Then it doesn't go to gutters. It just get messed up and it's bad.

That’s the backlash it gives to the community. So sad some people doesn’t understand

You're doing well by playing your part, I think government and companies can implement electronic bins, that'll incentives proper waste disposal.

Yeah no doubt. Only if people won’t abuse it again
