In countries that were once called the “third world” or “underdeveloped countries” (without getting into a discussion of such labels), the informal economy has predominated in recent decades. People have to find ways to survive by resorting to whatever is accessible to them and can attract the attention of the population. All this amid chaos and urban poverty. My city (Cumaná, in Venezuela) is a clear and painful example of this.
