ON THE SEASHORE IN 2009

avatar

I used to visit the seashore quite often in 2009. Especially early in the morning. I bought the tripod that year and became fascinated with the way the moving water looks in the shot with longer exposure. Since I don't have any mountain streams or waterfalls anywhere near me, I used to observe and photograph the waves on the rocky shore.

Late last night, while preparing this post, I noticed a series of shots taken from the same place, the same position. So I decided to make a GIF out of them and see how the scene looks presented that way. Well, not too bad, I thought, this thing doesn't look too bad. So I decided to put it as the opening picture. Mostly because the things that move can be more eye-catchy than the motionless ones.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see an ordinary still photograph in which you can enjoy the typical morning atmosphere on one of my favorite stretches of coastline the area around my hometown can offer.

(Enlargeable)

This place is situated four or five kilometers from the village of Shishan, and about eight to ten kilometers from Medulin - the town where I live.

(Enlargeable)

The rocks there offer a nice array of interesting shapes and those shapes ...

(Enlargeable)

... often look great in combination with the ethereal mist created by the long exposure.

(Enlargeable)

After taking a bunch of photographs by the sea, I really enjoyed exploring the details of those shots later at home, on the bigger screen. The movement of the water always creates something slightly different in each photograph.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see a black & white shot, for a change. You won't see many of those in today's post.

(Enlargeable)

Most of the photographs were taken in the Shishan's coastal area. Most ...

(Enlargeable)

... but not all.

(Enlargeable)

This small boat stranded on the rocks was photographed closer to my hometown.

(Enlargeable)

In the shallow bay, three or four kilometers from the village of Pomer. Medulin is only a couple of kilometers across the bay.

(Enlargeable)

However, the road to get there is considerably longer. If you don't take a boat or decide to swim across, there are six or seven kilometers to walk or drive.

(Enlargeable)

Besides the tripod, I also bought the polarizing filter that year. By comparing these two shots you can see how that thing works on the surface of the calm water. Without the filter, the sea is a mirror. With the filter, you are able to see some of the underwater stuff. I used it mainly to get a bigger contrast when photographing the sky, though.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see another morning scene from the stretch of coastline that can be described as the "Shishan Riviera".

(Enlargeable)

This is yet another early morning shot that shows the coastal rocks in that area. There's nothing else I can say about it. Hope you enjoy the blue visuals.

(Enlargeable)

You can see a slightly different rock formation in the foreground of this photograph.

(Enlargeable)

This is the second black & white shot in the post. Strategically put in the right place to add a bit of diversity to this thing made almost exclusively of rocks and the sea.

(Enlargeable)

I don't know what to tell you about the composition shown in these two shots. Hope you like it. In the following photograph ...

(Enlargeable)

... you can take a look at the rocks in the coastal area called Marlera...

(Enlargeable)

... only a couple of kilometers from the village of Liznjan, four or five kilometers from where I live.

(Enlargeable)

The coastal rocks are more flattened there ...

(Enlargeable)

... that's the main difference.

(Enlargeable)

This is the "Shishan Riviera" again.

(Enlargeable)

The post started here, and now ...

(Enlargeable)

... is about to end in the same place.

(Enlargeable)

AND THAT'S IT. AS ALWAYS HERE ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.

The contrast between the two images with one having the polarizing filter while the other without it is striking. I didn't knew such filters exist. The rocky shore with the sea looking like clouds are beautiful images to contemplate. Great views :)
