Coffee with Bay Leaves and Homemade Oregano Bread☕☕☕

Hello, my friends of this beautiful Cinnamon Cup Coffee community, happy day filled with many blessings. I'm in the process of trying coffee with added spices. Today it was bay leaves' turn, and I wanted to try it to see how much I liked it. I'm taking advantage of the fact that I'm looking for more experiences with my favorite morning beverage and I'm sharing them with you. Don't worry, my people, it's nothing special. Although I only made it with one option, I'm suggesting two just in case.


Since I'm experimenting, it's not necessarily the ideal amount to use in this recipe. In my case, I used 5 dried bay leaves, ground coffee of my choice, and approximately 4 large cups of water, which is roughly the same as a liter. To prepare it, I brought the water to a boil in a pot. When it started boiling, I added the 5 bay leaves. Let it boil for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it steep for 5 more minutes. I removed the leaves and began to strain it in the cloth strainer, which, by the way, is already needing a replacement. 🤭 I like strong coffee, so I previously added 4 tablespoons of ground Amanecer coffee to the strainer.


When it was done, I placed the coffee in my thermos to keep it warm. I got my Jumbo mugs and added the bay leaves I had removed to decorate the mug. I added freshly brewed coffee and accompanied it with some pieces of homemade oregano bread I had made on Sunday. I invited my son César, who was home at the time. The others were sleeping, so we enjoyed a cup of bay leaf-flavored coffee very early, accompanied by oregano bread. My son liked the coffee, and so did I. Although I can say that the bay leaf flavor was very minimal, if you want a stronger taste of this spice, I recommend adding more leaves.


The other way I was going to tell you how to prepare this medicinal drink is as an infusion. Once you've brewed the coffee as usual, add a freshly brewed amount to a cup of your choice, add 2 or 3 bay leaves, and let it steep for 5 minutes so the coffee absorbs the bay leaf's properties. If you want, add sugar or your sweetener of your choice. You know I don't like my coffee with sugar or sweetener; for me, plain is better. I would recommend not using sugar, as this way you can take advantage of all the properties of the coffee and the bay leaf.


After trying this coffee, I searched online. They also combine it with cinnamon, cloves, and even star anise; they sweeten it with brown sugar. I think any sweet or savory combination would be great for this medicinal drink. I'll tell you right away. I don't know if I've dared to make it; I already have the brown sugar. I'll share it with you later.


As for the properties bay leaves provide, it helps improve digestion, is a great antioxidant that helps combat stress, and contributes to heart health thanks to its unsaturated fatty acids. The combination of coffee and bay leaves has a revitalizing effect, and we can drink it to start the day. Like everything, we must be cautious and avoid drinking this beverage for prolonged periods. Too much of anything can be harmful. As always, I don't recommend it to people with health problems, pregnant women, or breastfeeding women. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Café con hojas de Laurel y pan casero de orégano
Hola, mis amigos de esta hermosa comunidad de Cinnamon Cup Coffee, feliz día lleno de muchas bendiciones. Ando en la dinámica de probar café agregándole especias. Hoy le tocó el turno al laurel, quise probarlo a ver qué tanto me gustaría. Aprovecho que ando buscando más experiencias con mi bebida favorita matutina y las comparto con ustedes. Tranquilos, mi gente, que no tiene nada del otro mundo. Aunque solo lo hice con una sola opción, propongo dos por si acaso para hacerlo.
Como estoy probando, no necesariamente es la cantidad ideal a usar en esta receta. En mi caso, utilicé 5 hojas secas de laurel, café molido de mi preferencia, y aproximadamente 4 tazas grandes de agua, que más o menos son como un litro de agua. Para su preparación, coloque a hervir el agua en una olla, al romper el hervor, agregué las 5 hojas de laurel, deje hervir por 5 minutos, apague y dejé reposar por 5 minutos más, retiré las hojas y comencé a la colada en el colador de tela, que por cierto ya está pidiendo cambio 🤭, a mí me gusta el café fuerte, le agregué al colador previamente 4 cucharadas de café molido que tenía en uso de la marca amanecer.
Al terminar la colada, coloqué el café en mis termos para mantener el calor, busqué mis tazas Jumbo y agregué para decorar la taza las hojas de laurel que había retirado, agregué café recién elaborado y lo acompañé con unos trozos de pan casero de orégano que había hecho el domingo. Invité a mi hijo César que en ese momento estaba presente en casa, los demás estaban durmiendo, así que bien tempranito degustamos una taza de café con sabor laurel, acompañado de pan de orégano, amo hijo le gusto como quedó el café y a mí también, aunque puedo decir que el sabor de laurel era muy mínima, si quiere un sabor más fuerte de esta especia, te recomiendo agregar más hojas.
La otra forma que les iba a indicar que pueden preparar esta bebida medicinal, es tipo infusión, una vez que cueles el café como lo haces de costumbre, agrega una cantidad recién colada en una taza de tu preferencia, agrégale 2 o 3 hojas de laurel, deja reposar por 5 minutos para que el café absorba las propiedades del laurel, si quieres agregarle azúcar o tu edulcorante a tu gusto. Ya saben que no me gusta el café con azúcar, ni edulcorante, al natural para mí es mejor. Recomendaría no usar azúcar, ya que así se aprovechan todas las propiedades del café y del laurel.
Busque en la web, después de haber probado este café, también lo combinan con canela, clavos de olor, hasta anís estrellado; lo endulzan con papelón. Creo que cualquier acompañante dulce o salado para esta bebida medicinal quedaría muy bien. Les digo de una, no sé si me animé a prepararla, ya tengo el papelón. De repente, se las comparta más adelante.
En cuanto a las propiedades que nos aporta el laurel, ayuda a mejorar la digestión, es un gran antioxidante que ayuda a combatir el estrés, contribuye a la salud del corazón, gracias a sus ácidos grasos insaturados. La combinación del café con las hojas de laurel, tiene un efecto revitalizante, que lo podemos tomar para iniciar el día. Como todo, debemos tener precaución y no tomar esta bebida por tiempo prolongado. Todo en exceso puede ser dañino. Como siempre, no se lo recomiendo a personas con problemas de salud, embarazadas, ni lactantes. Es mejor prevenir que lamentar.

I tried coffee with cinnamon and I really enjoyed it, I will tell you more about it later, and maybe tomorrow I will try coffee with oregano, I love trying new things.
