With A Heavy Heart.....

Laughed when I saw this question because it’s quite daring if I do say so myself, especially when this question is posed to coffee lovers or even coffee addicts alike. I fall well into the former range and I must admit I’d never thought of this question, but this is a test y’all. A test to see how deep my love for coffee lies. So, I’m not going to disappoint all coffee lovers who may or may not be looking up to me.

Will I give up coffee for the rest of my life for 100k?

My answer is a heart-wrenching, YES! _sobs.

Don’t get me wrong. It was not an easy decision to make. Okay, in light of my present economic situation, maybe it was a little easy to make. But who would blame me right? At the end of the day, we’re faced with real life decisions that need real life answers that transcend beyond coffee. By a long shot!

Coming to this decision, I put a lot of things into consideration. Cause I needed to know and come to terms with what I’d be missing for the rest of my life. First, I thought of the aromatic smell. I don’t know if a lot of coffee lovers feel satisfied. Like your hunger for coffee is half sated by the smell alone, but that’s how it is with me. The aromatic flavour of coffee puts me in a good mood way before I take the first sip. Then, I thought to myself, if I had a 100k, I could always pass by a Café, inhale the aroma and be on my way, yeah? Probably smell it twice to sate myself completely.

That’s crazy, I know. I don’t think I can do that. _{Or maybe I can. Don’t bet on it.}

Then I thought of the fact that my creative mojo may be more or less out of the way without coffee. I had about three cups this morning and as I write now, I’m sipping on another cup. Because that’s what coffee does. Sets me in the mood for writing and relaxes my brain. Have you tried writing, while drinking a cup of good coffee with music playing in your ears? Ethreal, I tell you.

But I think I may have confined myself to coffee for too long. Even though it’s basically breaking an age-old habit, I could get my tongue and taste buds to acquiesce to other drinks. I’m quite positive that I’ve not explored all there is to drink. But I’m certain that I might just find something and work on making it my Mojo-inducing drink.

The other week when I was ill, I asked one of my sisters to make me a cup of coffee as I couldn’t get up. I’m not sure if she heard right or she was just tired of being sent to get cup after cup of coffee. So, she got me hot cocoa and I grimaced when I took the first sip. Asked her how many spoons of milk she put in it and she proudly said four.

I didn’t snap. I willed myself to drink it, combined with the toast and fried egg sandwich she made and it wasn’t bad. Not bad at all. Of course, I got back to drinking coffee as much as I wanted subsequently but thinking about it now, aside the milk extravagance, I could get used to drinking hot cocoa instead.

All in all, it’s a head or a heart decision. While my heart would always and forever pick coffee, I’ve got to be logical and that’s where my head comes in. And my head says, “You could go a long way in changing your life with a 100k, Tess. You could get to love other tastes. You could get to rip off the band-aid of your emotional attachment to coffee. And get to explore a new life away from coffee.”

It's not simple but it’s my best shot. So, yeah, with a heavy heart but total submission to the logic of my head, I would give up coffee for 100k.
