Stream Of Consciousness: The Hunt For A Good Coffee
Good evening, my deeply caffeinated friends! It's been ages since I last visited the community, and I am happy to be checking in again.
I just got back home from a 2-day Halloween/All Saint's Day vacation with my daughter to mom's, a 20-minute ride from my house. It has been a laid-back, quiet, and peaceful visit, and that recharged my soul for some reason.
When we arrived home, I was thinking about how much I miss having my coffee each day back where I grew up (a small town not far from where I live now). My dad (RIP), who was a coffee lover like me, used to instill the love of the magic bean juice in me. We used to have the best random conversations sitting on our family house porch, on our favorite wood bench, watching the sunrise in the east, where gorgeous mountains can be found. We used to live in a mountainous town where sunrises could be seen at their finest. I love things that bring family together, and coffee is just one of the few.
Speaking of coffee, my daughter and I had a pre-halloween coffee shop hunt the past few days, and we finally found one that made our hearts smile. So, as per my previous posts, we went for a dinner out/coffee hunt somewhere by the beach where cafes and resorts offer varieties of coffee. We ended up landing at Maris Racal's cure coffee shop, "Stream of Consciousness.". Maris is a young Filipino actress, model, and singer who is in a relationship with Rico Blanco, who is also a famous Filipino band member, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.
(SOC: Stream Of Consciousness Cafe)
I'd say Stream of Consciousness is an absolute gem nestled at Port San Juan in the heart of the surfing area here in my town, San Juan, La Union, just a stone's throw away from the beach. This Gen-Z celebrity-owned coffee shop is not just a place to grab your caffeine fix; it's an experience in itself. This was our first time to visit the cafe, and although it is pretty new, it was opened a few months ago.
(My daughter in front of SOC. I think the architecture is freaking awesome)
The name of the cafe, Stream of Consciousness, was inspired by motivating visitors to wander around uninhibitedly (like we did) and without hindrances. You, as a customer, are free to just look around the place. So anyway, the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a wave of nostalgia with vibrant cartoon character paintings, some of Haruki Murakami’s art pieces, and anime figure displays that transport you to an anime world. I am not a huge fan of anime, but my daughter is. She drew them all the time. The decor is not just aesthetically pleasing but also exudes a warm and welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay a while. My favorite piece was the painting of Doraemon, which was hung just beside the entrance door. Doraemon was just one of the cartoon characters I used to watch when I was little. I just thought he was too cute. My daughter was in awe as well. It suits her personality as an anime lover.
(Doraemon saying Hi!)
(look how happy these flowers are)
( I love this)
(more paintings on the second floor)
It took us 5 minutes to walk around before we decided to order. The cafe is just too cute not to snap some photos. And oh, there were only 4 customers when we got there, so I didn't mind taking a bunch of photos. Besides the pretty and cute ambiance, what truly sets Stream of Consciousness apart is its coffee. It can't be good without good coffee. My daughter is only 10 years old, so she ordered Cookies and Cream Frapp, and I got myself, on the other hand, an iced mocha. I used to order hot coffee, preferably Americano, but since it was humid outside, I felt like getting something refreshing. The mocha was good. The caffeine kick approves of my taste. I must say their frappes and iced coffee are simply divine. They're the perfect balance of rich, robust flavors and creamy goodness. The best part? The prices are incredibly reasonable, making it a go-to spot for coffee lovers on any budget.
(I ordered Iced Mocha)
(cheesy fries, cookies and cream frappe for my daughter)
A bowl of cheesy fries costs 120 Philippine pesos, 160 pesos for a glass of cookies and cream frappe, and 180 pesos for a large iced mocha.
After we finished our snack and coffee, we continued taking photos because, why not?

We only paid less than 500 pesos (10 USD), and with all the aesthetic decor, great ambiance, and their good coffee and snacks, I thought it was all worth it. I recommend this cafe if you happen to visit San Juan, La Union. Whether you're a die-hard coffee aficionado or just looking for a chill spot to unwind after catching some waves, Stream of Consciousness is the place to be. Don't miss out on this unique coffee experience!
Cheers!
