My Signature Ringtone

Hello everyone.

Three years ago, in 2022, when I traveled home for the Christmas holidays, I was surprised to find one of my twin sisters using my ringtone as her ringtone. In fact, when her phone rang while we were seated outside at night around 8 p.m., I thought it was my phone ringing, only to realize it was hers. I waited for her to finish her call, and immediately after she ended the call, she knew what I was going to ask, so she burst into laughter upon dropping the call.

When I finally asked her about it, she said she loved the ringtone back then and had been using it for a long time. But how did she get the ringtone when it is not directly a song? I asked, and she said she had transferred it through the Xender app from my phone.

This past Christmas, when we met again after a year, she had changed her phone and was no longer using the ringtone because she didn’t have the file anymore. Right on the spot, she transferred the song into her phone and changed it to her ringtone instantly.

When I saw this prompt, my heart elevated with joy because my ringtone journey and its connection with my sister is something I would love to share with the world.

This particular ringtone has been with me since 2016 when I was at home in the village. Ever since then, it has become a transitional thing that I move from phone to phone whenever I change my device. It is so attached to me that everyone in the house recognizes it as my ringtone. If they happen to hear it outside, they would think I was there. It has become my signature, and one of my sisters fell in love with it, making it hard for her to let go.

How I Came About It – Is It a Song?

I came across this particular sound—a song, actually—mixtaped into a choreography sound.

Let me explain properly. It is one of the sounds we used for choreography dance rehearsals in church when I was living with my family. I had a choreography dance group, and in search of songs and examples to use online, I came across this particular one, and the rest became history.

You know how songs are mixtaped into step dance moves, with added words and effects? That’s exactly how this one is. However, it is actually the song part that I use as my ringtone, which is the beginning of the play. The song is Pilgrim by Enya.

Honestly, I didn’t know the song was by Enya until two years ago when curiosity led me to search for it on YouTube. I was totally wowed when I discovered the deep lyrics of the song. It didn’t stop there—I explored more of Enya’s songs, and that was when I made a post about the 'Goatedness' of Enya.

This ringtone is something I am never going to drop for another. It has become my signature, and I cannot even imagine using another ringtone. It is going to stay with me forever, and I am sure I will pass it on to my children when they start coming.

Thanks for reading.

Enya is like one of my favorite folk artists. She’s really good. I listen to her on good and bad days because that’s how good she is.
