Harvest Day Festival
As I mentioned yesterday in my post, Harvest Day was celebrated on Saturday in a medieval city called Mediaș. This is an old tradition in my country, dates back to communist times, but back then it was liked for different reasons. These days it's a nice event to celebrate autumn and also appreciate local producers for their effort. There was an awarding ceremony at the end and most, if not all of them got a diploma and some prizes, which was a nice gesture made by the organizers.
The reason I like these events is the decorations and the way those booth, and tables are decorated. The atmosphere is also special during the event.
What was done differently from the usual events here was the participation of schools and kindergartens. I've never see them participating, but I find it as an excellent idea. This table for example was brought to the festival by a kindergarten called Wonderful Spring.
Parents from the Little Prince kindergarten did their best to decorate those tables the best way they could, with all kinds of goodies.
But to start the festival the right way, there were some booths with traditional food and drinks, to bring the right mood on. The one on the photo was called The Warehouse Of Drinks. You can see the wine press, which served for decoration this year. My dad has one and I used to press the wine with it from time to time.
Cheers! I enjoyed the taste, it was good. In case you are wondering, this was semi sweet white wine.
There were these autumn decorations, which can never be missing from any fair. These two little ladies were posing in their traditional Romanian folk costumes in front of the chariot.
All kinds of autumn goodies, from onions to cabbages and pumpkins.
I took this photo on the go as I did not know how these vendors will react. I remembered @gabrielatravels told me people in this county are not nice and don't like people taking photos, so I took this shot and was prepared to run, as always 😂. Yeah, who said taking photos is an easy job or not dangerous. Seems I'm lucky as no one said anything, on the contrary, but more about that later.
I'm used to honey sellers, but the abundant offer this lady ha surprised me. I'm not sure how familiar you are with honey making, but imagine each type of honey needs to be collected from a different field of flower. This means you need to be in multiple places during the summer, for the bees to so their job. Those honey bears are still calling my name. Childhood memories :)
Here they had all kinds of canned goods, pickles, onions, garlic and so on.
One good thing to mention is the execution. Most of them took the time to make their table look traditional, attractive and even inviting. This lady dressed in traditional folk costume had nice, embroidered table cloths as well.
Fruits anyone?
And finally, this was what I was waiting for. This table was brought by a kindergarten called Children's Joy. I was hoping to see more compositions like this, but seems like organizers had only a few decorations, the rest was the sellers' job.
Garlic anyone? I really loved these garlic braids with dry flowers and red paprika.
Instead of garlic, we choose ice cream :D. I had salty caramel and the other was with fruits. Mine was good, I could have one every day.
There were different craft products as well, souvenirs.
I used to see people from South America posting about restaurants having special places set up for taking photos. At harvest day, these were the special places. Very rustic, isn't it? The good thing about this was, after sitting on those straw bales, the straw got transferred to your pants and you looked like sleeping in a haystack :)
Blue guys were also there, there's no event without them actually. I took a candid photo, hoping they don't turn back to see me as there's no running away from them :) But no worries, nothing happens if you take a photo of them. I did it two yours ago at another festival, they saw me and greeted me, asking me jokingly if I was targeting them.
Last, but not least, there was table full of soaps, candles and all kinds of goodies. I wanted to be polite and took a photo from far. The man saw me and invited me to take photos from close as well. He said he doesn't mind at all, on the contrary. This was a very nice gesture and I hope there will be more people like him. All in all, no one had any problems with me taking photos.
Lately I've developed an addiction to soap, but buying blindly is a risky business as you never know if it's good for your skin or not. Truth to be told, it's the same with shower gels as well, but maybe those are not as expensive as craft soaps. I have a crafter I'm usually buying awesome soaps from, so I guess I'd better stick to those, rather than experimenting. These looked good, but I was brave :D
I liked those candle in coffee cups and soup mugs. The dark one, which was chocolate, was calling my name, but I was brave 😂.
Coffee aroma anyone? I loved the soup mug more, but there's a high chance I can buy a mug like that without the candle inside. Not that I would not like the coffee candle.
So this is it for the day, I hope you were able to find something that you liked.
The event was covered by the local papers as well, but the article is in Romanian. This is for @gabrielatravels 😜.
This was not the first edition of the festival and I hope it wasn't the last one either. Also hoping to see some improvement net year. Let's see if I can attend.

This is a colourful event, the photos are spectacular.the semi sweet white wine is inviting, and the ice cream is so 😋
One of the reason I wanted to attend as the colors are wonderful. The wine and the ice cream was yummy.
This is an amazing festival. The display of the good or products should be liking to how some goods are showcase here in lagos market. I'm sure you enjoy yourself to the fullest.
They could have done better, but I understand why there was like there was. Organizers should have set up more decorations, but maybe next year.
Photos like this make me realized how lucky we are to live on a peaceful place where war is non existent.
I am watching the news recently on Israel/Palestine war makes me feel how uncomfort living there or just nearby.
Great post Erikah
You are right about that. While I was enjoying the festival, celebrating with wine and ice cream, others were under attack.
Have a nice day @rak7. Still have to read your story from the beginning to the end, just need a bit of time :)
What a fun and colorful festival and there is everything... I like honey. I'm like a honey bear. And you made me salivate with the ice cream, ice cream, you know I love it.
When I saw the little eyes they stick on the fruits and vegetables, I burst out laughing. My God, what a beautiful world.
I love how people are able to create so much wonder.
Honey is good, I have two types at home and the ice cream was so yummy!
Yeah, some people have a good sense of humor and know how to make the event funny. Just wait as I'm going to a pumpkin festival on Saturday, there should be a lot of fun there 😏
Candles in a cup are so cute and unique
I couldn't agree more, shame they are so expensive.
I guess we can try to make our own version
That is definitely an option, just have to learn how to do it. But there are a bunch of videos on YT.
Oh yeah Youtube is the best way to learn new things
that is an interesting event. The food there looks so fresh. Do they stopped when the sun is high? some of them don't seem to have shade for their booth.
are those blue guys the policemen?
It is fresh as the temperature was around 20°C, which is a bit unusual, too hot for this season, but not too hot for the fruits and veggies.
No shade for thee booth as this was a festival, not a usual market. The usual farmers market is properly set up, there's a roof above the market.
The blue guys are the gendarmerie.
ah I forget about the temperature of different season, since here in my place, it won't be bearable to stand without any share after 9/10 o'clock in the morning. Too hot, and the vegetable or fruit will spoil faster also.
Damn, this looks beautiful! I don't know if we have something similar in Sibiu but if not, I should make my way on the next edition of festival held in Mediaș. Those candles made in bowls and cups is really smart. In fact we all have at home some sets received from our relatives that we are never going to use, or those from our grandparents. Yet another way to save some money and invest those funds in more candles lol.
Thank you for being part of the Festival Mania community ✨
Thank you Gabriela. I hope there's one in Sibiu and you can attend as it's beautiful if it's set up properly. If not, you can visit this one next year.
My pleasure posting in this community. I think there will be another one soon.
Still have to find you on Discord, need to look for your comment with your handle 😳
Looking forward to see more from you! I'll also add you on the following list of the badge account to get one more of these on your profile 🙂
I don't know how to make it easier for you to find me on discord. I guess I'll attach a picture with my profile down below as I couldn't find any invitation link. Hope it helps :/
I'm going to find you tomorrow, no worries, I'm a good detective 😎😁
Found you, sent you a friend request and wanted to say hello, but it says we don't share any common server or something like that. I have the same username on discord as in here.
Do you think the cops turn up looking for freebies? They have certainly arrived mob handed. It looks so tranquil there can't be any other reason?
No, that's not why they are there. When an event is organized, it's standard procedure to have an ambulance (or more if the event is big) on the scene and the cops are also there, just circling around. If things get bad, they step in but they are not there for freebies. In this day of age, when everyone has a camera in their pocket and a photo or a video can go viral in a second, no one is eager to risk their jobs. I saw some beggars, looking for leftovers and begging for money, the cops may act and send them away, but nothing more.
Gosh it is certainly well managed then by the sounds of it, an ambulance too!
Yes, otherwise there's no event. I think this is great as where there's crowd, anything can happen. Old people are especially at risk if it's too hot, kids can get hurt easily and so on. I don't mind the police either as they are peaceful, just making sure everything is ok.
A good few years ago, there was a rock concert, a huge one, where you can imagine, anything can happen. There were 3 or 4 ambulances on the scene, ready in case medical help is needed. My nephew had a bike accident a couple of hours earlier, did not tell his parents (he was 14) and went to the concert. His arm was bleeding. The ambulance medic saw him bleeding, called him out of the crowd, took him to the ambulance, took care of the wound, but saw that he needs more than just cleaning the wound. She wanted to take him to the emergency room, but the kid was stubborn, did not want to miss the concert. When he got home at midnight, his mother took him to the emergency, he had x-ray and so on.
So we can't complain really. They are prompt, helpful and ready to jump in if needed.
Kudos where it is due.
Wow, the sense of photography. You did great with it. I love how well the organisers made everything.
And, this is my first time seeing the semi sweet white wine. I hope it tastes good?
However, this part made me laugh hard;
You are an inborn comedienne 🤣🤣🤣.
Thank you @balikis95. These events are beautiful for sure. The wine was good, you should taste one. Semi sweet white wine is my favorite.
I'm not an inborn comedienne, that is for survival 😁
I sure will whenever I find myself in a place that sells the wine.
Haha, you rock at it😁.
I hope I was there enjoying your tradition. There were lots of booths, things, and most of all food to acquire. I just so love going to such a kind of event. They are all nice.
I'm also a fan of these events, especially those that are well organized.
I just love the autumnal hues in these shots and I could literally feel the season's excitement in the air! I also felt like I could smell those candles too!
Then I have achieved my goal, if you can feel ans smell what's on the photos 😃
Such events must happen, it is beneficial that people also know about history and people's life is going on in trouble nowadays, because of such events, people can spend some good and happy hours. Glad to see everyone enjoying alot.
Indeed, people had a lot of fun and these vendors got to sell their products.
