[En-Es] Lycogala epidendrum

I found these small spheres 7 months ago, when I was examining the wood piled under the banana plants.

Encontré estas pequeñas esferas hace 7 meses, cuando examinaba la madera apilada debajo de las plantas de cambur.

They are not fungi, although in the past they were considered as such and it is now known that they actually feed on them.

No son hongos, aunque en el pasado se consideraban así y actualmente se sepa que, más bien se alimentan de ellos.

They belong to the protist kingdom and their scientific name is Lycogala epidendrum.

Pertenecen al reino protista y su nombre cientifico es Lycogala epidendrum.

They are actually slime molds. They are also known as "wolf's milk" or "toothpaste mold" and are found worldwide.

En realidad son mohos mucilaginosos. También reciben el nombre de "leche de lobo" o "moho pasta de dientes" y son cosmopolitas.

They are pink in color and turn brown or blackish as they mature.

Tienen color rosado y van volviéndose pardos o negruzcos a medida que maduran.

The ones I saw were only a few millimeters in diameter and were near some colonies of filamentous fungi.

Los que vi tenían escasos milímetros de diámetro y estaban cerca de unas colonias de hongos filamentosos.
