FungiFriday: Ramaria and Others in the Bukit Rata Valley

Today, I'll take you to see some of our mushrooms. I took these photos in the Bukit Rata valley in mid-January. It was the last mushroom walk we did during the rainy season. Since Ramadan has arrived, we have to postpone the mushroom walk until March, moving it to the first week of April. We'll be fasting for the next month; exploring the forest for mushrooms while you are fasting is certainly difficult.

I found a dense cluster of coral mushrooms (Ramaria sp.) in the candlenut forest we passed. Like tree roots growing upside down, the mushrooms grow sticking out of the moist soil mixed with litter.

One stem has many branches. It looks sharp and hard but is rather soft if you touch it. Some are yellow with a reddish base, and some are cream or white with a reddish base.

There are also some white pinwheel mushrooms (Mycena sp.)growing on coconut shell litter. The mushrooms are tiny, fragile stems, but still quite fresh when we found them. It seems that they are classified as bioluminescent at night.
