Busy Bee Class – Tutorial 4 - The state of Hive and the Production Drain of the Internet

Source

Good day Hivers! This post is written to help my new tutoring class, but its pretty universal and useful information for anyone and everyone that blogs on Hive.

Without further ado, let's get into it!

So you have come to Hive

Why have you come to Hive? Well, it is surely to get involved in the new Web 3.0 Blogging Experience! It is a place where you can get value for your time. In other words, blogs are rewarded for and due to the curation system, even your upvotes you distribute for consuming content is rewarded as well.

Once you have gathered a substantial store of HP and/or HBD, you will start earning decent amounts of passive income as well.

Whatever actions you need to take to get started or just move along with it is easy, repeatable and as long as you do not massively break any of the community rules or resort to spam and/or plagiarism, then you can just keep making an income for yourself.

Surely then you have come here to Blog?

What's the problem then?

Right now, even if you have just created a new account, you are one of the very first accounts on an amazing platform that will grow and take over social media networking in the future... but this process will take some time and I will get to that.

Let me first substantiate the first statement. There are just under 2.5 million accounts on Hive. However, due to the diagnostic tools and reports from others I can tell you that active accounts are more in the range of 23,000. This is a tiny drop in the ocean compared to other social medias and content-creating websites.

Why are there inactive accounts?

You might discover that there is a sliding scale for Hive Power and we term these:

Redfish: Those with less than 572HP
Minnows: Those with more than 572 HP
Dolphins: Those with more than 5,711HP
Orcas: Those with more than 57,108HP
Whale: Those with more than 571,076HP

There are inactive accounts at all levels. Some of those, especially at the top three levels, are inactive accounts that are holding accounts for communities, investment accounts, bot accounts that are part of some sort of voting/curation initiative.

But then there are far more accounts, especially in the bottom two, who are just accounts that go inactive because their users are no longer logging in online.

A certain number of inactive accounts we know serve a function on Hive. I am guessing that this would be around 5-10% of inactive accounts. As for the rest, they either lose their keys (another indeterminate percentage) or lose interest/focus.

Money is a bad Motivator!

Did you know that money was a bad motivator?

I am not saying that I do not enjoy my earnings on Hive. In fact, without the earnings, I would be in all sorts of financial trouble!

Many people quit high paying jobs when the work conditions are terrible or when the incentives are not high enough.

The conditions on Hive are mostly friendly though, the work time is flexible. The renumeration is random though, something I shall cover in another guide perhaps.

The biggest issue and the core concept in this blog, is that motivation is key and distraction is the obstacle.

You are working on the Internet!

One of the biggest issue that most people have when blogging on Hive is that you are on the internet. Most of us, like me have a job to keep ourselves suriving. If we blog, comment and earn on Hive - we could be thriving!

However, the moment I am on the internet. It is just so easy to open Youtube or Netflix and get lost for 2-3 hours. Even in between other events in our lives, if you have 30mins to wait for something, what do you do? You consume some sort of content.

You might open Youtube, thinking that you will put some music on to listen to and then algorithm of Youtube presents you with at least one or more things on the home page that may interest you.

They are highly accurate!

Movies, games on PC, mobile games, news feeds, Facebook, 9gag, Instagram, TikTok. There are just so many sites that suck you in and the next thing that you know, you have spent all your free time and you got nothing done!

Unfortunately, with this problem, you have to discipline yourself. You are your own manager. I cannot force you to stay and post and interact.

With low interactions on Hive, the reward/return on time spent on Hive is lower. It is cumulative! When you engage and post, you earn. When you drop either of those things, the results start to sputter and fade.

Besides Self-Discipline, what is the Solution?

Despite this cycle of new arrivals and people going inactive, there is still an upward trend in active Hive users. I predict that there will come a time where a certain breaking point will be achieved and a rush of accounts will be opened up on Hive.

Most internet users are content consumers and not content creators. When more users create content content, then more viewers join. The more viewers join the more content creators join. With a certain number of content creators will create exceptional content, the kind that will pull more people to Hive and make them stay there.

Right now, we are in our infancy really. 23,000 active accounts need to become 230,000 active accounts and then all of a lot of those dormant accounts shall return.

Once we hit a Million Active accounts we should see a drastic change in the number of users gained daily and the amount of users that stay!

So What are you waiting for?

The best you can do is create a schedule of time or actions you must complete on Hive and THEN go look at your feeds on the other platforms. Without a constant bit of effort from you, you will eventually fade and give up.

It is up to you.

On Hive, it is all up to you to gain that success!

Good luck!

Thank you! Money truly is a bad motivator. I know enjoy Hive more because of the social interaction and it has helped me stay consistent.

That interaction and feedback often means more to us than the money.

Once I start scrolling on insta or YouTube it is so appealing and adjusted as per my preferences it is amazing. Like they are listening my phone and catching important information for example do I want to buy camera or a book, or game... depending on what I talk to ciri-google, or even asking friends, i get those kind of content more on social media ahahah.

Hive is manually selected content. It is easier to get bored here. Followed communities are absolutely important for that matter.

Reading is huge for some people as well. Better format our posts in such a way, like yours, it is flowing when reading.

Thank you for this great blog it is really nice to see 😌🙏👏👏
