Why I Switched to Ente Auth for All My 2FA Codes

For years, I used Authy and Google Authenticator. Between the two applications, I protected my most important accounts with 2FA, but over time I started to feel like I was living with an unnecessary burden. I had to remember which app each code was in, Authy offered backup but Google Authenticator did not, and when I thought about changing phones, it gave me a headache. Neither of them gave me the confidence to immediately maintain access to my accounts.

A few weeks ago, I discovered Ente Auth and decided to try it. Honestly, I think it's excellent.

The Migration

I thought moving all my codes would be complicated, but it wasn't. From Google Authenticator, I could easily export and import them into Ente Auth in a matter of minutes. With Authy, it was a bit less straightforward, but in the end, I managed to have everything in one place. When I saw all my services, email, social networks, banking, work tools, organized in the same app, I felt enormous relief.

What I Discovered in Ente Auth

The freedom to use multiple devices: I installed Ente Auth on my computer and my phone, and thanks to encrypted synchronization, my codes appeared on both. When I changed phones, everything was restored instantly. That worry of losing everything was left behind.

Total transparency: being open source, anyone can audit how it works. That gave me a confidence I didn't feel with Authy, which was always more closed.

Practical search and organization: I no longer had to scroll through endless lists. With integrated search, I could locate any account in seconds, and the app also showed me the next code before the current one expired.

Secure collaboration: instead of sharing insecure screenshots, I can now send tokens in an encrypted and expiring manner to coworkers. That feature seemed like a huge change compared to other authenticators.

Access without relying on the internet: although synchronization is very useful, the codes work even without a connection. Traveling, I could verify it, and I appreciated not being tied to the network.

Confidence in case of emergency: I set up recovery contacts, something that gives me additional peace of mind if I lose access in the future.

My Conclusion

From having my codes spread across two apps, I now have them all in one place, more secure and much easier to manage. The migration was quick and easy, and above all, it gave me the feeling of having regained control of my digital security.

La migración

• Búsqueda y organización práctica: ya no tuve que desplazarme por listas infinitas. Con la búsqueda integrada localizaba cualquier cuenta en segundos, y además la app me mostraba el siguiente código antes de que caducara el actual.

• Confianza en caso de emergencia: configuré contactos de recuperación, algo que me da tranquilidad adicional si llego a perder acceso en el futuro.

De tener mis códigos repartidos en dos apps pasé a tenerlos todos en un solo lugar, más seguros y mucho más fáciles de gestionar. La migración fue rápida y sencilla, y sobre todo me dio la sensación de haber recuperado el control de mi seguridad digital.
