(ENG-ESP) Pea cultivation in the mountains of the Colombian Pacific - Cultivo de Alverja en las montañas del Pacifico Colombiano

Hello, dear Hive farming community! I've shared a few of my farming projects on previous occasions, and I think it's a very creative community full of useful ideas for all of us who make farming a profession and a way of life. Together with my friend Cesar Garzón @elmanzanillo, we've created a biodiversity protection project in the Colombian Pacific. At the El Manzanillo Biodiversity Refuge, we're part of this commitment to biodiversity, planting responsibly with the land and with end consumers, who receive natural foods, free from harmful chemicals and insecticides.

Hola querida comunidad de agricultores de Hive, en anteriores ocasiones he compartido un poco de mis proyectos de agricultura y me parece una comunidad muy creativa y llena de ideas útiles para todas las personas que hacemos del trabajo en el campo, una profesión y un estilo de vida. Junto a mi amigo Cesar Garzón @elmanzanillo, hemos creado un proyecto de protección de la biodiversidad en el Pacifico Colombiano. En el Refugio de Biodiversidad El Manzanillo hacemos parte de este compromiso con la biodiversidad, sembrando de manera responsable con la tierra y con los consumidores finales, que reciben alimentos naturales, sin químicos ni insecticidas dañinos.

Agriculture plays a very important role in our country, due to the fact that we have different territories at different altitudes above sea level, which generates a unique and abundant biodiversity of food. At this altitude, many types of food grow, from blackberries, lulo, onions, strawberries, and many other vegetables. The soil is very rich in nutrients and microorganisms, making it very fertile and suitable for many types of crops. In this case, we want to talk about peas.

La agricultura ejerce un papel muy importante en nuestro país, debido a que contamos con diferentes territorios a diferentes alturas sobre el nivel del mar, lo que genera una biodiversidad de alimentos única y abundante. A ésta altura se dan muchos tipos de alimentos, desde la mora, el lulo, la cebolla, fresa y muchas otras verduras. Es una tierra muy rica en nutrientes y microorganismos, lo que la hace muy fértil y apropiada para muchos tipos de cultivo. En este caso queremos hablarles de la Alverja.

Peas have a harvest time of approximately three months, making them a very efficient crop due to their speed and good market price. They are a food that only grows at this altitude, approximately two thousand meters above sea level. We must take very special care with the pea, a type of structure with ropes and poles to ensure the plant is entangled and grows bushy and carries its pods well.

La alverja tiene un tiempo de cosecha aproximado de tres meses, lo que lo hace un cultivo muy eficiente por su rapidez y el buen precio del producto en el mercado. Es un alimento que solo se da a esta altura, aproximadamente sobre los dos mil metros sobre el nivel del mar. Debemos tener unos cuidados muy especiales con la alverja, una especie de estructura con cuerdas y palos para que la planta se enrede y crezca de manera frondosa y carguen bien sus vainas.
