Happy Befana Day!
Hello hivers, an happy Tuesday and an happy Befana Day to you all!
Like I wrote in my previous content, today is the Epiphany Day, here in Italy it's an holiday and we are celebrating the day of the Befana!
Befana is the name of a figure of the italian folklore, an ugly old woman who is similar to a witch who, during the night of the Epiphany Eve, delivers gifts to children who were good children along the year. At the same time she delivers coal to the children who was not so good little ones.
Before Santa arrived in our tradition, the Befana was the only one who delivers gift to the little ones one time at year. Now the children are more lucky then during the old time, because they receive gift from Santa and a lot of candies and chocolate from Befana, all in just few days. 😁

During the previous years I used to draw or paint a little Befana to share my best wishes during this day, but this year I had not enough time, because this morning I had to cook some desserts for the great lunch we had with a lot of my relatives. In the past years I used to make some little socks to give to all the little ones of my cousins, but this year I decided to cook something to eat all together and so I gave 2 large Tiramisu, a dessert made with coffee-soaked ladyfingers cookies covered with a cream of egg, suga, and mascarpone. At the top a lot of cocoa powder.A simple but very good dessert, believe me!
Uncles, cousins and their families all together at home of one of my uncle (the one who has a room large enough for all of us! 😁). I just came back at home and I didn't take any pics to share, but I'm pretty sure my daughter @noemilunastorta will write a content with many pics about this lunch. ❤️
Now I really need to digest all the good food I ate, my poor belly! 😉
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia

Love the cover art and the legdend of Befana too!!
I like all the different traditions around this festival in various countries. It has become a bit generic here with the red and white Santa. I saw some other versions in Germany when I lived there. Kids didn't expect so many presents in the olden days, but it's all commercial now. It's more about the family for me.
When my mom was a little child (now she's 75 years old) the Befana used to give to the lucky children some tangerines. She still remember how happy she was the first time she received a tangerine! Sure, at that time there was no Santa around, but the children were very very happy to receive little poor things like a tangerine. Today I think some children have too much toys and too much things to appreciate the gift they received. At that time the Befana was also an educational figure, because she delivered gifts to say the child was a good little one, so parents used to say "If you're a rascal boy/girl, Befana will no give you good things, but just a piece of coal". 😊
We have the coal thing too, but I don't know how many kids actually got some. I'll admit that we did spoil the kids when they were little. Maybe we'll have grandkids some day to spoil.
