A Rescue on a Sublime Sunday

When I left the house, the sun was coming up over the horizon. It is one of those cold, soft, and golden mornings where everything feels quieter. The world was still making up! It's the weekend after all!

I drove an hour and a half, and I am glad to have coffee on hand. Where to? Well, I'm out to rescue one of my sorority sisters who was in full-on meltdown mode!

She has volunteered to host a semiformal sit-down lunch for her husband's friends (bless her brave heart!). So this is not just a casual backyard thing. This was linen napkins, real plates (well, we always used real plates anyway; I mean, her bone china), and people who probably know the difference between béarnaise and hollandaise.

So she called us... me and one other sister... because she was overwhelmed and on the verge of tears. On the phone, her voice was like she was trying to sound calm, but actually spiraling.

When I walked into the kitchen, it was C-H-A-O-S!!! Herbs were half-chopped and all over the floor; something was bubbling over the pot on the stove, and the oven door was open. The look in her eyes was pleading for help!!!

Well, I grabbed the playlist and switched it to something upbeat (because no one panics to silence). I took over the oven situation, rescuing a tray of roasted carrots that was seconds away from becoming charcoal. Our other sister started folding the napkins.

We continued working... chopped, stirred, plated... and laughed our way through.

By the time the guest arrived, the table was glowing and the food was hot. My sorority sister... she was radiant, calm, and grateful.

That's the thing about sisterhood.
It is not just about the good times.
It is about showing up,
sleeves rolled,
spatula in hand,
ready to turn a meltdown
into a success!

Great job on that rescue, what a venue though! Looks like a nice place, but you had one very early start. Good thing you had the coffee!

Wow, that is awesome! I'm glad everything turned out good for her. My wife and I have tried hosting a couple big parties like that before (not quite that fancy), I know how chaotic it can be.
